5.33 Change Log Notes:
  • Fixed an issue in which optical heart rate became much less precise during an activity if Connect IQ apps were installed on the watch
  • Looks promising, wonder if the OHR picks up on changes during interval training better too?
  • Justa installed and now waiting for how it works...let's see.

I don't think the fix is 100% functional yet.

5S, Updated to 5.33 two days ago. Optical only (no chest strap).

I did a Cardio activity today. Selected Cardio mode but didn't start the activity yet. I warmed up to the 110-120 BPM range before the workout. It was displaying my heart rate correctly this whole time. However, as soon as my actual workout started and I pressed the START button, my displayed heart rate quickly dropped to about 97 and stayed there for a while, then slowly decreased to 87 over the next 20 minutes. This was an intense workout; y actual heart rate during this time would have been in the 120-150 range. The history details for this activity say my heart rate was average 89 bpm and max 120 bpm, which is definitely WAY off.

I know it's not just as sweat / band / tightness / fit issue, because it works perfectly when not in activity mode. As soon as I hit STOP and saved the workout, my displayed heart rate shot back up to the expect actual rate, and tracked it correctly as I cooled down from 130 bpm to <100 over the next 15 minutes.

Additionally, I was doing the same movements during my warm-up as I was during the workout, so I know it's not a case of "it doesn't work as well for certain movements".

Also, I never had this issue until 5.30. It all worked perfectly before that.
  • Received a new 5s yesterday (ordered from REI). I updated it to 5.3 through Garmin Express and then loaded the 5.33 beta. I am unable to load any watch faces from CIQ. Indicates my watch needs an update first. I've reported to Garmin through the email posted in the first post in this thread. Hopefully the oHRM works OK now. My run on my other 5s was ridiculous yesterday. I had o idea I could keep my HR so consistent during hill runs. ;)
  • Lucinda. That sometimes happens with a new watch. The app store doesn't know you've updated the firmware. Try turning the watch off and back on and then syncing with garmin express, and if you still can't get CIQ apps, re-pair the watch with your phone.
  • Today I can tell again about an old and a new bug (Fenix 5 with firmware 5.33).

New bug: Garmin segments is shown (despite it is set off) and stopps activity
I have already had this problem once and then set this boring segment alarm to off. But today (settings still off) this segment alarms came again. Why???

And then again the same problem: it is shown on the watch and I cannot quit. If I go to abbrechen (which is supposed to be abort or stop in the English version) by pressing left page down it stopps my activity. So boring. I had to restart my activitiy several times. I am using this app for mountainbiking: Link

    Old bug: descent/ascent wrong
Not so bad this time compared with the correct Edge 500 but still and again to less ascent and the summary of ascent/descent does not match to the summary/difference of starting and ending elevation.

All fit files and the whole excel-sheets with the dates is in this Dropbox-folder: Link

Thanks! I'll give that a try.
