Hello there, is it just me or since 5.3 update the optical HR just doesn't work anymore? It increases at the beginning of a run, and then continues to go up until it finally blocks for the rest of the run at a random number, usually 150. Let me know... thanks
I don't appear to have any issues with the update. Hadn't managed to use it until last night but HR and GPS were both fine for me. HR was around where it should be and had a spike pattern.
For running I usually use my HRM strap and not the HR on the watch. But today I forgot my strap on my run, and was relying on the watch HR. On 5.30 it seemed to work fine. I wasn't following a workout, but I was using a course.
lots of reports of this on the 935 and 5/5s forums. I haven't used optical HRM for a run since I always use an HRM strap so I haven't experienced this. There are enough complaints however that it makes me think Garmin likely introduced a bug in the new software.
I only use the hrm strap when running as it provides the extra gucci run data and just works. The on board hrm is ok for what it does in terms of all day monitoring but Im not sure its so good at activities. My own personal experience is that its not.
Using the Fenix only for HR prior to 5.30 and it worked great, but now that I have 5.3 installed the HR seems like a average versus instant. Not sure what is going on put something is not quite right. I know use the HRM for HR and I see more real time numbers.
I have noticed the similar issues with the 5x HRM. It seems to "freeze" mid workout on a number. The only way i've found to make it responsive again is by turning the watch off and back on.
The description for 5.33 says "Fixed an issue in which optical heart rate became much less precise during an activity if Connect IQ apps were installed on the watch". But I don't have any Connect IQ apps installed. I have not tried 5.33 to see if it fixes the issue.
I downloaded the latest beta and it appears to have fixed the heart rate glitch. As far as I know I don't have any connect IQ apps (unless downloaded golf courses are considered apps) so I wasn't sure if my problem would be solved.
