I recently upgraded from the 3HR to the 5x, and the behavior of the HRM connection has changed. Previously, I would connect, do my workout and return to the Sensors settings, it would still show as connected, and I would disconnect the strap. Now, on the 5x, when I return at the end of my workout, the status shows disconnected for a few seconds, then shows connected, and I then disconnect. I have no faith that the HRM is connected during the workout, but I?m not sure how to verify if it is or not. The batter is fresh, and the specific strap is the soft strap HRM. Anyone else seeing this? Is it just expected behavior with the 5x, or how do I verify connection?
Take the watch off your wrist during the workout. If the LED's on the back of the watch are off, and you are still getting an HR reading, it must be coming from the HR strap.

If you see running dynamics (cadence, left-right balance, ground contact time, etc.) then HRM must be connected, since this data isn't available without it.
Thanks, all! I wasn?t using the HRM for running, but just taking the dang watch off like mcalista suggested, was the obvious solution. Anyway, I did this today, and of course the strange connection behavior didn?t even occur, so yes, I confirmed that the band was connected, but the watch never said otherwise. I?ll keep an eye on it, and I guess no one else has had this issue.
