I posted this in another thread about FW5.1 "breaking" DND, and I stand by it. You are correct that it hasn't been around since the 3 (and perhaps 3HR), but it doesn't mean that it shouldn't come back. I'm about 99% sure that sleep was handled on the Garmin connect servers with my Fenix3 just as it is currently with the 5...... the difference was FW and the ability to MANUALLY TRIGGER sleep and wake times via the watch and not based SOLEY on the times you enter in Connect . Not sure how many 0s and 1s Garmin would have to play with to bring this feature to the current Fenix, but it would be well worth it for many of us. The current sleep functionality is pitiful, to be kind (and I LOVE my watch- I say that after I just sent one back for a broken Alt/Baro).
From the other thread:
"Same here. It's ridiculous actually. I was miffed when I got rid of my Fenix 3 and got the 5 only to find that the manual "Go to Sleep" option available on the Fenix 3 was non-existant on the 5. In a utopian world I would go to sleep and wake at the same time every day, even weekends. Alas, I often swap between showing to work in the morning on a normal schedule and the sometimes shifting to nights. As such my sleep schedule is in constant flux and the go to sleep function was great on the 3. I just manually put it to sleep when I climbed in bed. This was essentially DND- no alerts, no backlight and locked keys. When you hit a key other than the backlight the watch asked you "wake up - yes or no". You selected the right option. When you hit wake up that was your wake time in connect. Heck, I even figured out if I synced with connect after my sleep, if I put the watch to sleep for a nap and then synced again upon waking the watch counted the sleep as a nap! Magical. Yes I had to manually hit the go to sleep but it was way more acurate then using sleep times and the watch catching things like me sitting still watching TV on a night I stayed up late when I got home from work and counting it as sleep.
Now I have a 5 and none of this works. They had a crappy sleep time setting and DND, neither of which work for my life and probably quite a few others. This new firmware makes it worse! Didn't think they could manage to make sleep tracking functionality worse after the loss I describe above from the 3 to the 5, but congrats you managed to Garmin.
Guess I'll send an email to garmin as well citing all this and asking why the go to sleep function on the 3 can't be ported to the 5. Can't be an issue with the fact sleep is tracked via servers- worked on the 3 with connect servers.
Some may need the watch to sense for them with auto DND and sleep times, but others need a manual option to work with crazy (and sliding) sleep schedules!"
