Getting fed up with this - no detect on Windows, no upload in GC

I've got a GPX and a chance to run in an epic place tomorrow...

Connect Fenix 5X to Windows computer - no detect. Lots of noise, device descriptor failures in device manager, but no device showing up. Rebooted, tried updating Garmin Express, the Fenix 5X has crashed at least 5 times and still no joy.

So backup approach - upload GPX to Garmin Connect and sync over phone. But Garmin Connect rejects the GPX... and the GPX exported from basecamp, and the TCX, and converted GPXs and TCXs in every manner I can think of.

So crap watch software and crap online software is about to ruin my day. I've been a proponent of Garmin, and generally pretty relaxed about this sort of poor software, but I've had enough now. ?600 for a watch and some critical functionality is just not working, months after release.

Rant over.

GC has issues and sometimes you yourself logged in can't even see your own activity but seriously, if you need to look at the logs you should buy yourself a real software like Sport Tracks.
There are many... Golden Cheetah, Neotrack, Training Peaks... You're not going anywhere with GC or GCM for the matter.

I don't understand... if the problem is the transfer of the file to GC, why didn't it happen with the wireless?
