New product from Runscribe

I just received an email from Runscribe re their new pods which will connect with Garmin watches (Fenix 5 for sure) and measure running power as well as many other things. To say that I already have their existing pods (w/o running power and F5 connectivity) and I am quite happy with it, so I am looking forward for this new ones. Just that I do hope they will work very well with F5 in terms of connectivity (not like Stryd which some users are reporting issues). The new pods will work with Suunto as well.

Here is the link https://runscribe.com/
  • They're making quite a big thing out of the CIQ integration, so sounds very promising on Garmin devices. I've always thought you need a sensor on each foot to get proper running metrics, rather than derived estimates from a single pod; so this might finally tempt me in to a purchase once the usual reviewers get their hands on it and confirm it actually works (DCR, 5Krunner, etc.).

You must change watches. Nothing works with the Fenix 5 and Fenix 5S. Garmin HRM, Garmin running dynamics, Vector, Stages, Garmin foot pod, Powertap, Stryd, and every other current and future ANT+ sensor will not work.
  • That's not universally true; I've had no drop out issues with my two HRM Run straps, two Garmin Foot Pods (even on opposite foot to F5 wrist) or multiple Wattbikes power+speed+cadence via ANT+. The two things that have caused issue are my Scosche Rhythm+ when it's on the opposite upper arm to the Fenix 5 (same arm is fine) and the in activity HR transmission from the Fenix 5 seems to drop out from my Fenix 3 after about a foot of separation between the watches. So it is possible for sensors to work just fine with the Fenix 5 and thus we can be cautiously hopeful for the new RunScribe pods.

I may be the lucky one but as till now my F5 worked well with external sensors (HRM-Run, Viiiiva HRM, Power metre, Viiiiva FP)
  • Word of warning, my original F5 worked OK with my ANT+ Garmin footpod and HRM Run until support swapped to the watch to try and fix the bluetooth issues, now I get ANT+ dropouts to both and still have the bluetooth issues... :(

Not in a hurry to get this as I already have the Stryd and it works mostly fine with my F5 with only short drop outs on some runs.

But good to know there are now more options and the dual pods could allow for some things not possible with Stryd. Especially interested in monitoring foot balance / shoe differences as they seem to have gathered some good amount of data on this already. And I do change my foot wear a lot from maximal cushion to nearly barefoot.

That is why I like these pods, they give me data to be able to see which shoes are better and for what.
  • That looks really interesting. I was going to ask if you knew if it was going to support footpod pace, meste, but I just spotted where you asked that question on their forum.
Answer apparently yes (the release info is so full of the shiny new things it can do that it doesn't mention the basic one :) )
  • Having directly sought confirmation on their Facebook page that RunScribe Plus will also cover the foot pod pace I currently use a Garmin foot pod for on my Fenix 5, the answer back was a positive that RunScribe Plus will pair as an ANT+ foot pod and provide pace. So I've taken the plunge and pre-ordered; the gnawing of nails starts now and will hopefully end in early October when the pre-orders are shipped and I get to see if it all works as planned with my Fenix 5.
  • This looks very interesting indeed- coming from a Stryd owner. Dual sided power sounds quite appealing- along with the other nifty stuff that they are doing.
