Same here. Woke up with the same message. Not so smart move to force update overnight with no user interaction needed. What if something went wrong (like it did) and the watch stucks and overheats, and you are sleeping with a mini lithium bomb strapped on your wrist ?
Well I needed the watch so i turn it off an on again and it works. It also showed me a message about being updated to 5.10 but in settings->about it's showing 4.10
Sorry to hear about the problems you experienced. The path to resolve is correct as stated by some of you above, which is to force power down your watch and connect to Express to finish the job.
If a force power down (press+hold power button until device shuts off) does work and the watch is connected to Express, does Express offer the 5.10 update as expected?
If your watch has become affected by this update, please send an email to "] and include a picture/screenshot of the About page, which should include your Unit ID and SW version. Also include details regarding the software version you are updating from.
The issues being reported were not experienced during our testing before release, so we are currently investigating what could be causing this to occur. Thank you for everyone's patience and understanding.
Forced power off did work. The watch booted version 4.10 according to the settings menu, but did show an invalid 'upgraded to 5.10' message.
odsweng I've immediately connected the device with USB and archived all the files to the PC. If helpful I can email specific log files, or all files in a .zip.
Will try to upgrade again later, first time for a run ;-)
Thank you debrabander, and again, our apologies for the issue. Do you know what version of software you were updating from? We assume you've been using 4.10 this entire time, but want to clarify.
Also, have you connected to Garmin Express to retrieve the 5.10 update?
It would be helpful if you can email us your \Garmin directory along with a screen shot of the 'About' page showing the device software version. You can email to .
