Hi, I currently have the forerunner 230 for 11 months now which I have been very happy with and just got a problem with one of the buttons and I have already been in contact with customer service who were excellent. I have been looking at upgrading my 230 as I do a lot of fell/mountain running and have started some cycling and swimming too. I have seen some great prices for the fenix 3 with hrm monitor bundle but am doubting if I should just go right ahead and get the fenix 5s? I am a women and have been happy with the size of the forerunner and I wear it all the time, even for work! just not sure if the fenix 3 would be much bigger and heavier for everyday life? Would really appreciate some thoughts and advice :) the only thing i didnt like about the fenix 5s is the wrist hrm.. i am so used to wearing a strap and from what i have read online it is the most accurate.
You can still use your chest strap with a F5S if you prefer. It will work with both ANT+ and BLE HR straps.
Problems with wrist HRM are often down to poor positioning and placement, allowing extra light to enter the OHR sensor. The strap should be snug, and positioned on the fleshy part of the wrist away from the wrist bone.
I find OHR and chest strap readings to be pretty close. The issue with OHR isn't really accuracy per se, but rather the lack of responsiveness. It's fine for steady running, but too unresponsive for HR-based interval training. The vibration from cycling can also sometimes cause problems.
Thanks so much for the response. It is good to know that the OHR readings are close to the the chest ones and that it is all about correct usage. thanks :)
do also take note about users complaining about F5/F5s problem with connecting to or paring with ANT+ device in this forum, which seem to be only affecting F5 and F5s.
