Importing TCX files

I am able to create TCX files that are correctly imported by my Edge 1000, but when I place them into the New Files folder on my fenix 5X, nothing seems to happen. That is, I can disconnect the watch from the computer, and when I look for a new course based on the TCX file, it is not there. And if I plug the watch back into the computer, the TCX file is still there in the New Files folder. The watch is able to import GPX files, but not (it seems) TCX even though, as I said, an Edge 1000 has no problem with these.

The reason for trying to do this (import the TCX file) is to try and get some semblance of turn-by-turn directions in an imported course. Maybe there is some other way of doing that. If so, I'd appreciate hearing about that, too.

5x can only read gpx and fit files. You can use mcbadger tool or FitFileRepairTools to convert from tcx to fit. Turn by turn works with both of them, but for instance to start in the middle of a course not work for me with McBadger tool. Does the FitRepairTool have the same problem regarding starting in the middle of the course?

No. It is a great tool with a lot of things you can do with your data, but it's not freemore complex and it takes a couple of minutes more to do your conversion. On the other hand you get more control, can change waypoint types and description. http://fitfilerepairtool.info
