I picked up my Fenix 5x yesterday, the store did not have working model on display and other than you tube I have not see one in person. My display is muted, very pale and the watchfaces look like they are from an 8 bit system. Extremely poor display, not sure if this is normal, going to return to store but debating if I should replace or get money back.
The display won't be as bright as a cell phone. How does it look with the backlight on? What brightness do you have the backlight set for? (in watch mode, I think the default is 20%).
The display tech and the backlight etc are such to preserve the battery. That's why you can go quite some time between changing and go many hours with GPS on, etc.
Also, take a look at it in bright sunlight. It looks incredible, as the display uses reflective LCD. The brighter the ambient the light, the brighter the display. Then compare it to how a cell phone looks in the same light. At least with mine, it's next to impossible to read.
