Waypoints limited to 50 in course ?

Hello,

For trails run or mountain bike, I create my courses with Garmin Connect and upload it to the watch with Garmin Connect Mobile. With my Fenix 3 Sapphire, I have no problem but with my new Fenix 5 sapphire, I've a Warning message when I launch a activity following my track. The message tells me that the Maximum waypoints for a track are 50 and the points exceeded 50 will not be shown. The altitude graph is flat after the last 50 waypoints. Do you have the same thing ?

Thank you.

Johan
  • Hi, I had the same issue with a bicycle track. Created a 300km lap in GC, uploaded to the watch (5s), and when starting the course received the same massage about max 50 waypoints. The navigation really worked for those 50 waypoints, thereafter you can just follow the line of the track, but no upcoming turn notice pop up any longer.
l had no similar issues with my 735XT.

The Fenix 3 is limited to 50 waypoints as well, it just doesn't tell you about it when you launch the activity. It silently stops turn alerts after the 50th.
If I remember correctly, the 735 supports 100, and it seems very odd this didn't get picked up for the 935/F5 generation.

I've noticed the second half of the altitude graph being flat in a few F3 courses recently, and it seems to be because the distance recorded in the course trackpoints is shorter than it should be, so the watch squashes the elevation graph into the first 50-60% of the distance, followed by the flat line.

Thank you for your explanations. I just compare 2 courses and the curves seem complete despite the flat line at the end ! It's still not really clear !

I?ve run into the same issue. I loaded a course into the F5 by Garmin Connect. When I go to start course it says 50 point max is exceeded?the last 54 points will not be shown. This is for a trail marathon coming up in mountainous terrain and I want the elevation plot. What will happen half-way through my run? Will it still show me my elevation? Will it still accurately record my run?
    thanks in advance!
  • You will still see the line of your course on the watch. It will no longer give you the turn alert. Your run will be correctly recorded and transferred to GC.
