The Broken Back Light Function?

There is 2 different types of light settings in the watch settings menu. There is one settings menu for activities and one set of settings for the watch mode. The various time out options that are available are 4 seconds, 8 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute and finally there is the no timeout option. The various options are the same for both the watch mode and the activity mode. So what is wrong then? The issue is with using the no timeout option as a setting for the watch mode. When using that setting for the activities it works as expected. There timeout really means no timeout as it should mean! But when using that same setting for the watch mode then all of a sudden no timeout actually mean only about 5 seconds of light. This makes no sense at all and is not logical.

Someone in this forum contacted Garmin support about this an received a response suggesting that this is not a bug and actualy by design. This I find difficult to accept as a proper answer because no timeout means exactly that NO TIMEOUT! And also were is the logic behind having a no timeout option when it only gives you about 1 extra second compared to the lowest 4 seconds option? Since when is no timeout less then 4 sec to 1 minute? Surely this must be a bug and not truly by design? Another user here in this forum reported that the no timeout option in the watch mode worked as expected adding further to this confusion. Is this the case for anyone else reading this? Do the no timeout option work as expected for anyone else? This issue with the backlight function is my biggest gripe with my new Fenix 5x watch!
  • It is by design, as a battery-saving feature. The no-timeout does work on widgets (which follow the "watch mode" backlight rules rather than the "activities mode" rules, but not on the clock face. Of course, widgets revert to the watch face after 2 minutes, so you don't really get the benefit anyway.

Perhaps you could detail in what circumstances do you need the backlight constantly on where the gesture functionality is not suitable?
