Fenix 5 heart rate reading coming from wrist or chest strap??

Hi,
how do I know if the watch is getting the heart rate from wrist or chest reading?
is there any symbol indication this? if not how do i know if the chest strap is correctly connected and sending the readings to the watch?
thanks

Hi Pedro...I understand your concerns. I also have the same one. I tend to use the Rhythm+ arm band HRM which works extremely well for me since it has the additional yellow LED for my darker toned skin. I disabled the wrist sensor just to make sure, but for some reason, the wrist sensor does not stay disabled. The only thing I can say....when I went through and made sure my external HRM was connected to the phone and then started my workout, I got a pop up saying that the watch was using an external HRM. Just make sure the watch is connected to the HRM before starting the activity. Then see if you get a pop up say the same.
I also wish they would make it very clear since the wrist monitor is not accurate with my skin type (all wrist based HRM's with only green led's are the same for me).
  • Yes, you should get a pop-up on the watch at the start of the activity saying "Ext. HR Connected".
  • I would really like to see a widget that could show a list of all currently connected sensors. I know you can look in the watch settings but it's a bit of a hassle to get to during an activity.
  • I agree that there needs to be an easier way to tell if an external HR is connected. I usually end up lifting up the watch to peak underneath to see if the green lights are activated. I?ve seen the connect notification but it?s also disconnected after one workout is done
