Fenix 5 beta software update does nothing?

Ok...I continue to have issues. I downloaded the beta software for the Fenix 5 hoping this would fix my other issues. I went step by step putting the files where they needed to be and then double checked. I removed watch from computer and it never did any update. I rebooted and nothing. Connected again and went to Garmin Express to see but it again did not update. I then went into the Garmin drive and the main update file was gone, but the others were still there. So, I installed it again and went through everything again but no update.
I am about to throw a $700 watch through the window. Tell me not every watch is like this? With all the issues I have had and continue to have this is the worst software experience I have had in a long time on any device and I install Alpha software on many of my devices.

Update: I now have the Fenix 5X as well and it has the same issues so not a watch thing. I haven't decided if I am going with the 5 or 5X at this point
  • Never had such problems with betas on my Devices (FR630, F3, F5) - must be a file copy problem... realy shure you copied the correct files to the folder they should be copied?
  • I've never had any issues with an update (F3 and F5) and most issues I'm aware of that have been reported on the forum turn out to be user problems.

The files placed in the REMOTESW folder will not be used if they are not newer than what is already on the watch. The GUPDATE file that is put in the GARMIN folder will disappear when used. In most cases, users put the wrong version file in the GARMIN folder, which is easy to do as the file names for the different versions are all the same.

Go through the process again carefully and you might have more success.

Thanks. I went through and did it twice. I am on a Mac if that matters but I don't think it should. Everything is copying over fine. How does the update to Beta itself work? Meaning...does it happen automatically and how long does it typically take? Thanks
  • As soon as you disconnect the watch from the PC, it should ask you if you want to install the new software... as simple as that. If it doesn't ask that, the file in your Garmin folder is not recognised.
  • Maybe go back to the fenix 3 HR? Most (but not all!) things on it work, you can be sure there are no more updates coming, and you don't have to worry about the Beta team ignoring your requests :(
