HRM-Run vs Running Dynamics Pod

Since the HRM-Run is starting to irritate my skin on longer runs, I'm thinking of getting the Running Dynamics Pod for the running dynamics and using the 5X's built-in heart-rate sensor for heart-rate. I should get the same results that way I guess? Any thoughts?
  • I did quite a few runs when I first got the pod; so same runs recorded on my Fenix 5 with the RD Pod and on the Fenix 3 with the HRM Run. I observed that the difference in RD data between Pod and HRM Run was rarely more than 10%, either as average values or at given points on the graphs (cadence values didn't show any discernible difference). To me this is entirely satisfactory, given that the RD data is an estimated metric anyway, and the variation in body placement. I now quite enjoy the freedom of doing less intense runs just using the HR from the Fenix 5 wrist HR and RD from the pod. If I'm doing more serious training then the HRM Run becomes my go to HR source; so the RD pod is a bit redundant in that scenario, but not because the RD data is off.

What I have noticed is that the RD Pod seems to take precence for providing RD data, if the Fenix 5 is paired to a HRM Run at the same time as the RD Pod. So if you want to eliminate the slight variance between activities of RD data due to different body placement of the RD pod vs HRM Run, then always use the RD pod regardless whether you wear a HRM Run or not.
