lost steps, disparity between watch, phone app and actual steps

Hi all,
I'm a fairly new user, I've not had any problems with my fenix until today, have been running 4.12 for a while.
This afternoon I hit 10k steps while walking around in a "no data reception" area, I somehow noticed that my watch was suddenly showing ~100 steps only. I checked my phone and it was showing 8000 steps or so. Just a bit later I noticed that the steps on the watch have reset again but not since. Eventually the Garmin connect app added some steps and gave me 11k+ while there should be around 15-16k for today. The watch is currently showing 3717 steps and it is going up but I am unable to gain any more steps today in the app - permanently stuck on 11k on the phone.

SC8 watchface.
Sunrise/sunset data was not lost, HR data had 4 hrs history, time and date were correct. Active minutes were lost as well as calories spent.
Can somebody advise what happened here..?? A faulty unit?
  • And reset steps again today

So just a closure to the story, in case anyone else runs into this: the device reset its step and calorie count (and probably other data that accumulates over the course of the day) every day since the issue first appeared.. Garmin support only advised to master reset it but it did not change a thing (also, their reset documentation was fairly outdated and only had fenix 3 instructions within).
Device has gone back to the retailer as this occurred within the first 30 days. I have not carried out any changes to the device neither before nor on the day of the initial data loss. Had no issues with GPS accuracy which a lot of people are moaning about and the steps count was always spot on.
Garmin online support was less than stellar and I don't want to be left potentially dealing with them 13 months down the line facing the same (or any) issue with a replacement device.

Goodbye Fenix! Our fling was short and sweet.

Same thing happens and I got a replacement and it continued to happen. It seems to happen if I'm maybe in area with bad reception of GPS, not sure yet. Garmin hasn't figured it out. Since steps should reset at mid night and if the GPS is lost, it may think it switched time. I'm going to manually set the time and see if it happens again.

So it's over 2 weeks now, and I have not had any issues with setting the time manually. The step count has not reset once. Would be nice if Garmin would take this lead and look into the possible issue.
