Which footpod?

Hi all, which footpod are you using with your 5x? Would you recommend it? I am aware so far of the garmin (expensive) and the milestone (less expensive). The stryd is VERY expensive - and does not work for hiking / walking (which would be my main use)

So: what are you using, what would you recommend? Thank you!

I have the SDM4 (garmin) and stryd.
Will never use the SDM4 again as Stryd is accurate out of the box without calibration.
    And (power)hiking is working: http://club.stryd.com/t/power-hike-calculation/5812/

Thank you. I am more looking for a tool for walking and regular hiking. When I contacted Stryd they told me that they do not recommend the device for walking or similar.

That is why so far the Garmin and maybe the Milestone are options and I was wondering if there are others...

Garmin vs Stryd is like comparing rotten tomatoes :) and strawberries. I have both - Stryd is by FAR the best.

NONE of them are any good at walking speeds. I don't know milestone but I doubt it would be better than Stryd at this moment. Stryd does start tracking speed reliable before the Garmin foot pod does. So I think my Stryd is okay from about 5.5 km/h where the Garmin does not track well before 7 km/h.

Best option would probably be a high quality armband mount GPS receiver. I don't know if there are any that works out of the box with the Fenix but for walk speeds - getting the GPS out in the open with a larger antenna than what you got in the F5 would probably help quite a lot.

  • Thank you. Having a second GPS for a GPS watch may work - but it sort of defeats the purpose of the GPS watch in the first place (at least for me). What other suggestions would anyone have to have better distance tracking for walking / hiking? Thank you all!
