Did my first Open Water swim race today using the F5.
When I checked the Strava Flyby my trace jumps in small segments rather than having a smooth, continuous trace like it did with my old F3.
Any ideas why it's doing this?
Can you post the connect link to your swim?
Here it is... https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1817304532
Did you have a good gps lock before the swim? Did you prep the OW Swim app by leatting it soak in some gps prior to hitting start?
Also, did you start the race in the water or from the bank?
We were held on the river bank for a few minutes and I prepared the Open Water Application, obtaining a GPS lock fine. We then entered the water prior to starting, I floated my arms at the surface ensuring I maintained GPS lock.
Everything was the same as when I have used my F3 in the past and had no problem.
I am getting the feeling it is the way the device is recording the GPS data. Do you know what the optimal GPS setting is for Open Water Swimming? Should I be using GPS +GLONASS
Currently using Normal GPS only.
I have a garmin 920xt... i use GPS+GLONASS and use 1 second recording, and I have always had a smooth, continuous track on strava fly-bys for all my swims...
Until last week, for the first time, I now have a jerking, jumpy track, not smooth at all. I've seen this with other atheletes tracking during races when i look at fly-bys with alot of atheletes, usually a couple of them will have that jumpy track.
coincidentally, i just upgraded to a garmin tri HRM.... i think thats the culprate... by any chance do you use this HRM??
