BirdsEye Satellite Imagery - Activation

Has anyone here had any problems activating BirdsEye Satellite Imagery on the 5x?
  • You need to make sure that your watch is registered under mygarmin.com this isn't the same as garmin connect, then you need to make sure that Garmin base camp is logged in to your mygarmin profile, one this is done your Birdseye subscription should be linked to your watch and you should be able to select and download maps.
  • Birdseye can be a bit tricky during activation, but Zippy is partially correct: you will need to fully register the fenix 5X in your myGarmin account. The full registration is not something most wearable users have had to deal with, but the handheld users are quite familiar with it.

When registering your device in your myGarmin account, you will need to enter the following information:
    • The device's serial number
    • Your street address
    • Your city, state, zip code
    • Phone number is optional
Without the address information entered into your account, devices will only be associated with the account, not fully registered.

Your myGarmin account sign-in/ new account creation can be found at: https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/login.htm
After you have signed in or created a myGarmin account:
    1. If the header at the top of the page is blue with white letters, click on the Home tab.
    2. If you are back to the website after signing in, scroll to the bottom of the webpage and click on myGarmin below the Garmin Sites header.
    3. Click on Register.
    4. Click on Outdoor & Dogs.
    5. Click Continue.
    6. Enter the serial number in the box. Any “O’s” you encounter in the serial number will most likely be zeroes.
    7. Click on Submit.
    8. Verify that the correct device is showing and then click on Next.
    9. If you have not already entered your Contact Information you will be prompted to do so here.

After your fenix 5X shows registered, open BaseCamp with your watch connected to the computer, select BaseCamp at the top, and click on "Where's my Subscription" when you see it. It is there you will be able to select your watch to activate the subscription to.
  • Wow, thanks!

Apparently my fenix 5x was associated and not registered with mygarmin (I've had a mygarmin account for a few years).
I did the registration like you described and it worked perfectly, birdseye is now active.

I've had Garmin support looking into this for a week now, the response I've got from the twice is: "Fenix 5x is not compatible with birdseye sattelite imagery even though it should be, they are looking into why..."
No amount of youtube links showing people using this on 5x seemed to be able to change their minds. Garmin support department really needs to get some QA attention.
  • When the fenix 5X was first released, there was talk that it would get Birdseye added to it, but originally it wasn't compatible with the Satellite Imagery or with BlueChart mapping. About 4 weeks ago that changed, with the fenix 5X now compatible with Birdseye Satellite Imagery, BlueChart g2 HD, LakeVü HD, and City Navigator NT mapping. I think some people are still trying to get caught up with all the recent changes.

The Fenix 5X has been compatible with Birdseye since launch.

I had issues with my subscription. I had paid, the purchase showed up in my orders, the device was registered and associated with my account, but the subscription didn't show up in Basecamp. I had to defer to the guys and gals at Garmin who fixed the issue within a few hours.
