Floor counter

Can anyone tell me how to stop the watch from showing me the number of floors climbed? The darn thing is so inaccurate that it's just plain annoying now.
  • While I agree with FitBit being more accurate on stairs, their watches are very poorly made.
They are not "waterproof" and not even "splash proof". I wore one in high humidity, and the
face fogged up and the watch was useless. Even a slight rain will have the same result.

I wouldn't disagree on that, but my point is the technology works well on a lesser value watch, for the price of my Fenix 5 sapphire I expect it and everything else to work and it doesn't.
  • Well I don't know what to report really, having climbed the stairs 4 times with the altimeter showing on the watch the elevation didn't change from the bottom to the top at all on any of the stair climbs

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

This is the problem. Without a change in elevation no floor will be counted... mmmm

Just another question: do you make any workout outdoor with gps?
Even if elevation doesn't change, is it the number correct?

I use the run and walk activities outside both of which show elevation lost and gained as part of the report on Garmin Connect and the figures do change. Maybe the sensor isn't set fine enough to detect the air pressure change in just going up the stairs (faulty?) although it does measure/count some floors climbed.

I haven't seen many other users complaining of this fault so maybe I have just been unlucky and had two faulty units.
  • I've measured the height of my floor climb/stairs and it's 2.7m from hall floor to the bedroom floor. So I guess technically it falls short of Garmins requirement, however it doesn't explain why some days the watch is more accurate than others at counting floors climbed and as others are not reporting the same issue I'm convinced that the unit is faulty.

My unit always records in-home floors incorrectly.
I doubt that yours is a "faulty unit", it's just that Garmin does not have the settings correctly to count floors correctly.
Some software adjustment seems to be required to make "floors" between 8ft. and 10ft.

Absolutely agree, the floor counting on the 5 series is pathetic, some days it works okay and other days not at all, the F3HR was very much the same. My previous cheaper devices worked consistently much better, my Basis Peak was spot on. Garmin engineers just seem unable to improve the performance of this simple aspect of the watch.

My thoughts and experiences entirely, yesterday it counted 80% of the floors climbed, so far today it has counted 0/3. I simply don't understand the inconsistencies, surely it should either work...............or not.

So far today, I've climbed/descended the stairs 8 (individual) times and have a 0 count, also why on so many occasions the floors descended doesn't closely match those climbed.
I know tis is perhaps not a top priority issue for some, but perhaps Garmin could provide an option to calibrate home staircase/steps in watch and would at least help to remove the inconsistences.
  • I emailed Garmin support about this issue and got the stock response of "load the latest firmware" and "if that doesn't work try a hard reset" despite the fact that I had told them I was using the latest FW and I had already competed a hard reset at least twice. There was no mention of techies being aware of the issue and looking at it or anything else, just the usual stock response. Not good enough Garmin, simply not good enough.
  • I know i will probably be burned by this comment: but do we really care about floors climbed? :D I just removed the Widget for Floors climbed...
