TBT notification on F5

I used F3 for more than 2 years now, and I use the f3 for navigation very often. I plan my course on www.gpsies.com, also include my own tbt notification (water, refresh station, top of the hill, turn warnings etc.). After export from the webpage to TCX I use the TCXtoFIT converter from Runningbadger to convert the TCX to FIT file. This FIT I put to the Newfiles folder on the watch (www.gpsies.com ->TCX export -> TCXtoFIT converter -> FIT file to watch). And everything is working fantastic.

I have a question, if you create such FIT file and upload it to the F5, are the tbt notification working in case you select navigation on selected course?

Thank you for your answer.
  • No, not for just tcx2fit conversion it's not, but I use it from time to time to look at the data in more detail or to put different data together from different sources.

Another way is maybe to edit the tcx in a text editor before and then convert it.
  • The TCX specification (xml schema) sets a limit on the number of characters in the name, and most of the websites obey that, though I'm not sure if the TCX devices care much.
The limit for FIT files is much longer, but if you're working from a compliant TCX file in the first place, there won't be anything in the source.
  • @ capinoha -> So it means it's possible to create a TBT course on Android on Garmin connect and after synchro it will be available on the watch !
The downside is it's not possible to edit the waypoints on GC, they are automaticly created.

Zapeske, so you got TBT even with arrow icons on device from route created on Garmin Connect?
  • Yes but with mixed and strange results ! I just made quick tests while running on my usual trail (no real need for TBT then !).
First I tried with a course made with GPSies the usual way with waypoints etc... It works perfect with sound & arrows & all.

A few days after, tried a course which was made automaticly by converting an activity into a course on GC. As you know there is no waypoints with this system so you can delete the Next waypoint data field but you get the Next Distance working and tell you where your next turn will be ( then again it's GC who's deciding where your next turn will be so don't be surprised if it's not where you think it will be !).
And then I noticed there was no sound notifications when the pop-ups arrive with distance and arrows ! So it's pretty useless because you have to look way to much to the watch. At least for running !
Then I decided to switch back to the GPSies course while still running and everything worked again with sound etc... After a while (and this is where it became strange) I switched back again to the GC course and suddenly I had sound with the pop-ups !!!

This is my experienced at that moment and I have to say I didn't investigated too much this problem since it was working properly with GPSies... Maybe I made a mistake while changing courses while running, I don't know it's possible too !

BTW I edited the TCX with XML editor and was able to extend the 10 char limit to 15 ! Thanks again for the tip !
