4.12 Change Log Notes:
  • Added support for viewing distances to Golf hazards and course targets. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAceo_zxe6M&en-us=)
  • Added support for viewing smart notifications on Varia Vision.
  • Added support for new Heart Rate related last lap data fields.
  • Improved the altimeter and barometer locking mechanism for water sport activities.
  • Fixed an issue where the device stopped recording position information to the FIT file, if a user accessed the widget loop in an activity, while using a Running Dynamics Pod.
  • Fixed an issue where the device was unable to sync if a LiveTrack session was currently active.
  • Fixed an issue where the user might see a blank black banner while navigating a shorter course.
  • Fixed an issue where a storm alert could occur after saving a pool swim activity.
  • Fixed an issue where strange characters were appearing on the map for Abu Dhabi.
  • Fixed a potential issue where the device would snap the user's track to nearby roads on the map.
  • Fixed an issue where strange characters were displayed when viewing Strava segments.
  • Added support for Treadmill Calibration. When saving a Treadmill running activity for the first time, you will be given the option to enter the distance that the treadmill recorded. This will improve the accuracy of the distance that the watch records during future treadmill activities, and it will update the overall distance and average pace of the activity you just saved. You can also choose to calibrate when saving any treadmill activity. When you are done with your activity, stop the timer. Scroll down to 'Calibrate & Save.' Then, enter the distance that the treadmill recorded. For accuracy, these options become available when recording an activity longer than 1 mile or 1.5 kilometers.
  • Fixed an issue where the device was unable to process large GPX files.
  • Fixed an issue where large values for ascent could overlap each other on the elevation plot page.
  • Fixed an issue where a FaceIt CIQ watchface would flash, when transitioning to the watch face. (Requires Display 2.31)
  • Fixed an issue where Sunrise and Sunset times were showing invalid values on a CIQ watch face. (Requires Display 2.31)

Great idea on the locking mechanism for the barometer.
While I am starting to see some distinct improvements I cannot stress the importance of improving the coordination between QA and the open betas.

If you guys tell us what you need to be looked at we can EASILY reproduce it and give you lots of data to process and find the solutions.
Keep up with the good work, thanks!
  • Is there a downloadable 4.12 Beta for MAC as well? Really happy with the treadmill calibration option.

I second that. Due to the hot climate I'm now mostly running on the treadmill so I no longer feel so hard done by that the watch is incorrectly recording my performance!
  • Yes, a watch face in it's normal mode can now get info from Activity.Info.currentLocation.
And this works for you? I still see the same issue that I need to down while in an activity to switch to the watch face for the location to appear. I have not created a new activity since the firmware update though so maybe that is what is missing for me.
  • Another firmware release, still the same problems

    - Same bug on resume screen at the end of mountain-bike activity
    - Same spike/drops on gps track
  • Alarm issue still not resolved. Anyone check tbt when follow course?
  • Brand spanking new 5X (received Monday) that shipped with 3.40, immediately upgraded to 4.10, then manually updated 4.12 just rebooted out of nowhere and is stuck on the Garmin triangle. :/

edit: That was weird. While at the triangle, I held down the top left button and it brought up the scroll menu. Powered off easily enough, then powered back on and it's fine. Maybe it didn't reboot, rather went directly to the triangle and vibrated when doing so.

It should work after you've started a GPS activity, before it goes "stale" (this can happen after a few hours on watches). When you updated the FW, the info from the last activity is lost, so "null" for currentLocation until you do another one.

The ninth fw update without fixing the issue with showing a wrong distance in the remaining distance data field...

This is no unimportant issue and I can't believe wth it takes so long to fix it. Fw team: are you really still working on this?

100% agree. This is a core feature when hiking and navigating and it's still not correct. I emailed Garmin Beta with screenshots and notes but nothing. Can't be a hard fix.
