Chest Strap (HRM RUN & HRM TRI) disconnects frequently from Fenix 5

My HRM chest strap connection with my Fenix 5 often disconnects during activity. I have tried to moisten the strap but the problem still remains. When i went to the Sensor status in settings, it would frequently show "searching".

I tried both HRM Run and HRM Tri and the same problem persists. Battery is new and i have tested them to be in good condition. I never had such problems when i used my chest strap on my Fenix 3HR. The problem seems to happen after i changed to Fenix 5.

Any advise would be appreciated :)

Does it only happen during a run?

For example, does the issue occur if you wore the strap, set up the watch for a run, clicked start and just walked around or sat in one place? i.e. without causing it to move a lot. The HR data screen should show you your HR without any interruption.

Check also if the strap is tight enough to maintain contact when you are in a run.

    Check your strap

I had the same problem with brand-new heart rate monitor. Only I decided to use my old strap because I was trying to use it until it was completely done.

Turns out the strap makes a huge difference and now I know longer have drops all the time with the new strap.
  • I have found heart rate to be largely reliable but running dynamics data is an issue with the Fenix 5 when your wrist is too far from the sensor. Have at look at this thread: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?374423-Problems-with-Ant-connectivity
  • Try Download Heartrate

    Edw4rd,

there may be 2 reasons of the issue. Either bad contact of the HRM with your skin or bad ANT+ connectivity.
If you have HRM-TRI, you can open your workout in the watch using the History menu. After opening it you can use the "Download Heart Rate" menu to download the stored data from HRM-TRI sensor. It will update your workout. If the updated workout has no dropouts, then it means that your HRM belt records data correctly and the problem is caused unreliable ANT+ data transfer during your workout.
I am experiencing the same issue like you with 2 different HRMs and I found out that my Fenix 5 suffers from the bad ANT+ connection, because the sensor data is correctly recorded.
