GCM update

I've just updated to the latest version of Garmin Connect Mobile and even though the watch says that it synchronised successfully its only showing the latest sync was 8hrs ago and is only showing the HR up to that point.

Anyone else seeing this issue or can offer advice?
  • Yes, could live with that as I do not need a feature to set alarms in GCM, on the watch is enough for me.

BUT: just tested your workaround. Did not work for me.

    1) Set an alarm on my 935
    2) Performed a sync triggered by GCM -> alarm was still on the watch
    3) Triggered a sync by my 935 -> alarm was gone

Very bad and not reliable. The only working solution for me at the moment is set an alarm and put the watch in flight mode.

Edit: performed another test. It is independent of how the sync is triggered. The second sync is wiping away the alarm.

Does Garmin know of this issue?
  • I can confirm.

The website seems much better now, but neither iOS GCM (updated) or Wifi does sync properly.

EDIT: 15 minutes later after posting its seems to be working fine now.

WOW! That's fast customer service, Garmin got right on that one! Good Job! :-)
  • Yes, can confirm it is with the latest GCM Version

I couldn't replicate your results, but I can confirm that my watch set alarm did vanish over-night. So while they appear to have gone some way towards fixing the issue it's still not 100% resolved
  • Too bad. Do you know if Garmin has confirmed this as a bug and is working on a resolution?
  • New version of GCM came out. Alarm bug still there. Very bad.

I wish they would write a proper changelog instead of the increasingly common "Every month we release new features and app updates.... blah blah"

I have consistently bored the beta dev guys about this issue since release and they have confirmed it's an issue being worked on. My view is that the correct solution would be a 2 way sync, where the latest change wins whether that change was made on the watch or Garmin Connect; but this doubtless would require a change to both Garmin Connect ecosystem and the Fenix 5 software. Given the time passing without solution, I'm hopeful that is what they are working towards.

(Side note here: the Garmin Connect Mobile (GCM) app is just a convenient user interface for your smartphone to communicate with the Garmin Connect servers. So it's a change in Garmin Connect servers that is required to fix this issue; a change in the GCM app will not do a thing by itself)
  • As long as there is no reliable 2way sync, Garmin should disable alarm features in GCM and GC.
Well, I am happy with setting alarms only on the watch. If they are not deleted.
  • Most important thing a proper 2way sync could accoumplish is synching diffrent devices ( fenix 5 and Edge 820 for example) and having synchronized training status and so on.. that would be nice!
