Fenix 5 Crashing at Midnight

For the last 3 nights I’ve woken up to find that my Fenix 5 has frozen at midnight. The display is still on, showing the hands at 12, but it’s totally unresponsive and each time I’ve had to do a soft reset (or more accurately two soft resets on each occasion) then it’s going back to running OK until the next midnight. Checking HR records shows that the watch has fully frozen, it’s not just the display.

I’m guessing it’s a problem with something it refreshes every day, like resetting steps etc to zero or recalculating Training Status, but I’m not sure what I can do to fix things - I know Garmin will just suggest a hard reset but that seems to be their lazy first response to everything, and I really don’t want to lose all my stats.

Anyone else experienced this?
  • 2 things. A hard reset won't cause you to lose most stats. Secondly, are you using a CIQ watch face, if so which one?

I’m not using any CIQ face or apps, my f5 is ‘pure’ in that context. I know a hard reset doesn’t delete everything, but I’ll lose my Training Status and I really don’t want to have to set the thing up yet again.

That said, it didn’t crash last night, so fingers crossed. If it does crash again I think I’ll just try installing the beta (I’m on 4.0 at the moment) in the hope that the installation process will fix whatever’s broken

There currently isn't a Beta software version out, version 4.10 is the latest public release. If your watch is still on 4.00 then it will have issues synchronizing with the Connect Mobile app, which might be responsible for the Midnight Freeze.
