Floors Climbed

The Floors Climbed is really off.. Makes me ask, Is this watch really accurate ?

Every morning I use the stairs to go from my work parking, up 4 floors to get to the main building. When I used the Fitbit before I got my Fenix 5, it would always show that I had gone up 4 floors. With my Fenix 5, It only shows that I climb 2 floors ?? What is the deal with this? $600 dollars for useless information ? My fitbit was much more accurate than my expensive Fenix 5.. Yes, I have tried swinging my arm more to make sure that the watch registers the correct altitude. Well , I never did this with my Fitbit and it worked great, with the Fenix 5 , it never shows the correct floors climbed.

I have had this watch since it first came out. I have the latest updates, and not once has it showed the correct floors climbed. I have been taking the same stairs since I got the watch and it's alway's off by 2 floors ??

I have the same problem at home, I go upstairs, and sometimes it shows that I have gone up and sometimes it shows that I have done nothing .. In fact, sometimes I workout with a 90 Lb sandbag that I use to go up and down the stairs for a certain amount of climbs. Sometimes I go up and down 10 times and the watch only shows 5 or 6??

I just don't trust it anymore.. I bet the steps, miles ran or walked and other values are off as well.
I know it's not a defect in my watch because my friend has the exact same problem. He is a big runner and is alway's complaining of how off his trails are. He has been talking about returning his for something else, I for some reason still have hope that Garmin will get it together..

It's kind of like having a really nice looking car with a bunch of great features, but with a 1950's engine..

I think for the person who just wants to see some kinds of number and or values showing on the watch is ok, but for some of us who really want real accurate numbers, this is not going to cut it.

My thoughts entirely, I've been asking about floor count accuracy for quite a few weeks now but not getting anywhere. Earlier this week it counted 6 out of 11 floors that I climbed, yesterday it counted 0 floors out of 6 that I had actually climbed.

With all of the other issues that are being raised on this forum I'm beginning to think the watch isn't fit for purpose.

I really had great hopes for this watch, I have gotten so many compliments on the looks of it and all the great features, but truthfully, I am afraid to recommend this to my friends. Some of these guy's are amazing athletes and really rely on true numbers for training and such. I don't know, I am just pissed that it doesn't hold up to what many reviews talked about. I think it has the potential to be the best fitness watch on the market but for some reason it came out before it was ready.
I wish Garmin was as anal as Apple when it comes to the software, making sure that everything was up to par before releasing it to the public. Garmin would have become number one in the fitness watch without a doubt.

I think that sentence sums up the current situation with this watch perfectly

What's hard to swallow as well is that the features on this watch should be well perfected by now but the device is riddled with little bugs that spoil the experience somewhat, coupled with the fact that a device live the Apple watch has been proven to be able too detect atrial fibrillation and Garmin still can't get floors count correct or even obtain consistently accurate heart rate measurements.

Garmin needs to sort the bugs and start innovating again and not just keep rolling out what are basically similar devices with small improvements.

Exactly the conclusion I reached. I found the optical heart rate on my 5S to be erratic, particularly during workouts, and sometimes so far wrong it was laughable. The altimeter is also next to useless and the GPS tracking could be better.

I bought it to be my key training tool but today I sent it back because it is nowhere near good enough, which is a real shame because it is so close to being the ideal sports watch, if only Garmin could actually deliver on the promises.

Spot on. I just wish I could return mine but I am out of the 30 days option to return to the retailer, Garmin don't want to know and have offered no suggestions for altimeter or floor counting. If I do insist on returning it I will have to do so through the retailer citing that the fault was there from day one. As you said the watch is so close to being ideal and yet because of its failings to deliver on its promise it is even worse than units a third of the price.

Floor Climbed feature not working properly

I have tried swinging my arm, pausing at the top of the stairs, walking up the stairs backwards, crawling up the stairs, skipping every other step, etc. and nothing seems to work. I walk stairs everyday and would like to have a record of it. Looking down and seeing a '0' after walking up 2-3 flights makes me very annoyed with the thing. I have fiddled with calibrating the altimeter(it does not change either most of the time) and just put it on barometer mode to see if that 'corrects' the problem. There shouldn't be a problem. It should work out of the box.

    Well said.
