Bug or not? Please share your ascent/descent dates

Folks, I have already started a thread because my Fenix shows completely wrong "total ascent" and "descent". In the meantime I am in contact with the support and the beta-team. Unfortunately Garmin has not considered this behavior as a bug yet. And therefore they aren´t working on this.

That´s why I want you to share your dates concerning "total ascent" and "descent" (ideally compared with other watches that measured in parallel and/or the dates which you get on Basecamp when you upload the gpx-file that the Fenix has recorded. And please add if you have Fenix 5 oder 5x because it seems that the 5x doesn´t have this bug.

I would appreciate if you join this thread because I can figure out if only my watch has a problem or if there is bug in the firmeware ...and if so this thread can/should accelerate Garmins activities.

These are some of my dates:

Fenix 5: ascent 722 m, descent 584 m

Fenix 5-gpx-track on Basecamp: ascent 748 m, descent 735 m

Fenix 5: ascent 513 m
Fenix 5-gpx-track on Basecamp: ascent 587 hm

Fenix 5: ascent 1347 m, descent 870 m

  • the others 65-25 = 40 meters i don’t know where do they come from.

That´s the question. It´s so boring and the beta team is ignoring it more or less. Just wondering about the almost perfect ascent dates on p.merzis Fenix. I have had this problem since months. Support sad that this is a software problem ...but the beta teams is not working on it (they haven´t confirmed yet that this is a bug). Fenix 5X also seems to be ok. I have sent my watch today to garmin with a lot of excel sheets and the serious advice to send me a new one because I won´t accept any stupid explanation (software, usual behavior and so on).
  • Here are the news ...especially for you vonzipper:

I have received a new watch from garmin and made a testride with my mountainbike right now. (By the way: I have sent them the watch only (without any straps and so on) and got an absolutely new package with cabel and two straps). This are the dates from my testride:

    Fenix 5: ascent 580 m, descent 584 m, difference ascent-descent accounting the difference of starting/ending elevation: 0 m
    Edge 500: ascent 576 m, descent 587 m, difference ascent-descent accounting the difference of starting/ending elevation: -1 m

I know this is just one ride. But it has never been that perfect. To my mind this bug is not software related. I recommend to send the watch back to garmin.
  • Yesterday a did a small run over 9 km and an ascent of 115 m. Again pefect data. Difference between ascent/descent exactly 0 m.

Whoever has the same problem as I had, send your watch back to Garmin and request a new one!
