Barometer issue

the Barometer is very inaccurate

It differs more than 14 mbars from all other devices I have.

Have a look at the screenshot.

How can i solve it?

    Hi everybody,

any news to solve this issue?
Is it possible solve with a firmware update or the unique way is returning the watch?
  • I'm not going to change the watch for the moment. It's a good reason to be able to change later and probably (if many people complain) they will implement a manual calibration for barometer in some future software. If not, we have a good reason to change the wath in a few months, when they may also improve the problem with the loading cable. At the moment, the pressure sensor is working well for me. The maximum altitude, the minimum altitude, total ascent, total descent are fine. If I check the barometer value I should deduct 10mb to the value

Also, the barometer often goes crazy after a swimming session. It jumps 300 mb higher and takes a few days to go back to normal unless the altitude is recalibrated.

I will write to the developer about that as they can prevent such behaviour at least when a swim activity is on going.

    ok
i think I'll take your advice...

    Thank you
  • GPS, if anything, seems to exaggerate the problem on my watch. Today I watched GPS hold altitude 120 ft lower than the known elevation of 30-80 ft above sea level. Decided I was riding through some kind of canyon. Saw similar behavior yesterday when trying auto-calibration in an open field. The lateral accuracy of the GPS track is more or less what I would expect.

Frustrating because my Fenix 3 never had these problems.

This is how crazy my barometer goes after swimming. It jumped to around 1,300 mb after a swim session, then back to normal to about 1,015 mb and then jumped to 1,430 mb after another swim session ^^

I will write to the developers right now.

I have wrote them many times regarding this problem...
  • When you calibrate to a known altitude, the watch also updates the MSLP, it just doesn't immediately show you this. But you can verify if you want to.

When you calibrate the altitude the MSLP changes as well (however, it depends whether your watch mode is set to auto, barometer or altimeter). Nevertheless, if you are the unlucky person with wrong barometer calibration you will never have correct both the MSLP and altitude. You can set always only one parameter correctly and the other one will be shifted because they are not independent! I'm professional meteorologist, so believe me I know what I'm talking about and I know perfectly the watch as well.
  • I didn't notice before this post, but I'm also affected by this false calibration.
The pressure reported by the barometer is constantly offset by +10mb compared to pressure reported by nearby airports (in METAR report).
  • I've requested many times to beta team the ability of calibrate barometer other than altimeter...
