WiFi broken - "connection failed try again"

My F5 sapphire suddenly got this problem last week. It will no longer connect to WiFi:mad:. Have tried on multiple networks that have been added and worked earlier. No matter if I am in the range of an added network or not, it will display the message "connection failed try again" after only a second. Anyone else with the same problems?

Yes I had the same thing happen to me. Make sure you go on garmin express and make sure you router is listed there and selected. What worked for me was restarting my watch. I shut it off then turned it back on. It started working after that. Hope it works for you.
  • Garmin Express special WiFi configuration features

There are a couple of very handy features in Garmin Express which may be of interest:

    1. WiFi password cannot be changed

If you want to change the password for one of your saved WiFi networks, Garmin Express allows you to do it.

However, what Garmin Express doesn't tell you is that there is no point in doing this as the password is only sent to the device when the network is first created in Garmin Express.

So you have to delete it and start again making sure you get everything correct first time.

    2. WiFi networks list cannot be refreshed

If you want to set up a WiFi network on the watch, but it is not in range or off when you connect the watch, if the network then becomes available, Garmin Express won't be able to see it, and there is no way to refresh the list of available networks.

You have to eject the watch and then reconnect it before a new network can be seen and saved to the watch.

It simply seems to be broken. Unable to make any WiFi work and unable to find any networks. I guess the WiFi functionality is becoming as useless as the Bluetooth connectivity....

And now the following happened: stopped working while removing WiFi through Garmin Express. Not able to connect to the PC any more and not able to turn off the watch, not able to start run/new workout and would not connect to external HR. Did a factory reset (which seems to take more than 15 minutes) and will see what happens now.

I recently bought a Fenix 5 Saphire and couldn't get it to connect to my WIFI network either.

At the moment it is working. Here is what I did: my router transmits on 2.4 and 5 GHZ. I temporarily disabled the 5GHz on the router and my watch was able to connect. I then reactivated the 5GHz and my watch is now continuing to work. My suspicion is that my watch was having a hard-time with the 5GHz and that once it established a connection to the 2GHz it sticks to the network. (Not sure for how long or if that was definitely the problem.)

I've gone one step further and gave the 2GHz and 5GHz different SSID (network names) to make sure my watch can only find the 2.4GHz network. Who knows if that was the case :-)
  • I did two things to get WiFi working better (but still get network error message frequently):
    - changed 5 GHz SSID to something different on the router (so that watch no longer sees it)
    - change 2.4 GHz bandwidth to 20 MHz. It was set to 20/40.
