Fenix 5x – battery problem!!!

Hi everybody,

I’ve got a problem with my Fenix 5X battery.

After my watch has been busy with an activity that uses the GPS (for example like hiking or running) for let’s say 4 or 5 hours, my battery indicator rises by 2% or 3% after I terminate the activity.

In doubt, I called the assistance and had my Fenix 5X replaced with a brand new one, but I’ve still got the exact same issue.

Anybody with the same problem? Or Am I so incredibly unlucky that I’ve been given two Fenix 5X with a defected battery?

Anybody willing to run a little test and compare our Fenix 5X?

Thank you

Michele

P.S.: Firmware 3.30
  • Hi everybody,

After my watch has been busy with an activity that uses the GPS (for example like hiking or running) for let’s say 4 or 5 hours, my battery indicator rises by 2% or 3% after I terminate the activity.

I have seen this - battery reporting say 67% at the end of the activity and then a few minutes later 68 or 69%.

Never thought it was a problem and not worried about it. I seems to me a good thing that the watch would correct any errors in the battery reading.
  • I see the same behavior, only in my Fenix 5x the battery level usually increases by 1%. I haven't thought of it as a problem, though, but perhaps it is. The battery level indicator should of course show the correct reading.

(By the way, this behavior can cause significant errors when calculating battery consumption in short exercise sessions.)

It's probably just rounding errors causing it to jump up and down a little. Hardly think it's an issue.
  • Battery level is meassured by the Voltage of the battery. I think when starting an activity and activating the sensors and GPS and doing calculations in the map there is a higher power consumption. This will cause a voltage drop, also the battery will warm up and when ending the activity this will increase the battery voltage when there is a smaller load
  • Saving and activity is very CPU intensive and i have seen the same behavior on the F3 were the battery makes a small recovery after saving

Same here. Don't see that as a problem.

Measuring the exact state of charge of a lipo battery is quite demanding. Therefore I assume they use for any consumer electronics just an approximation by measuring the voltage, which as you mentioned, depends among other things as well on the temperature. A variation of 1-2% after the battery recovers from heavy load looks reasonable to me.

I do not see the issue here too. The battery percentage is only approximate, from my point of view.
  • Normal.

Power remaining is mapped by battery voltage and temperature and there is a "sag" issue under load. When the load is removed so is the sag and thus you get a 1-2% increase.
