Watch Face Configuration Reset

Hi,

I think there is a problem on Fenix 5X between the firmware and the Watch Face on Connect IQ ...
Lot of users lost their Watchface Configuration.
This problem appears for example on the Watch Face : GEARMIN, SC8 and LINE.

We're searching where is the problem ... But no more information about this problem for the moment.

If any users have more informations about this issue ...

Thanks for your help !
  • I've been trying to track this down too

One thing that might be involved is the type of Garmin Connect Mobile involved. The only one I've seen mentioned so far is GCM for iOS., and not sure if it happens with GCM for Android, but from what I've picked up is the reset occurs after a sync, even if the user hadn't done anything with settings for an app.

I've not seen this myself and been trying to reproduce it with a number of watch faces, but I'm on GCM/Android. Also, I'm on the 3.44 FW.

I have had this with GCM for Android on 3.30 and on 3.44 and you are correct it happens during or after the sync.

I'm using the following watch face:

  • I know right now with GCM/iOS there's an odd thing going on with any watch. (It's come up in various forums)

In the app there's an "update available" button of some sort for a CIQ app. (Again, I use Android so not sure).

Anyway, if you use that button, in the background it seems to be doing an uninstall and reinstall, and the uninstall action, by it's nature, removes the app settings, and the re-install sets the settings to their default.

So on iOS, and using "update" will reset your settings.

There's no way to update an app with Android unless the user uninstalls and re-installs manually themselves (which again, will reset the settings. )

Garmin Express will do a update and preserve the settings however.
  • Oh, another thing to note, is there are two types of settings often used with connect IQ watchfaces. There can be watchface specific things, like colors, what info is displayed, etc.

But there are also system settings that can be accessed - like 12/24hour time, miles vs kilometers, etc. If you have a watchface that switches from 24 hr mode back to 12, that's this type of setting, and not was watch face specific one in many cases...

For the system wide stuff, you want to make sure that your phone (within GCM settings), your Garmin Connect account, as well as the watch are all set the same right now it seems. All set for 24 hour mode, for example
  • This hit me as well on FW 3.30 with the WF4COOL watch face yesterday... pretty annoying but not as bothersome as many of the issues that presented themselves when I tried out beta 3.44. Whenever I find a FW that doesn't screw up more than 20% of the stuff I use regularly I'm sticking with it and waiting for the 6X

I too have this issue. It's preposterous and Garmin need to fix it.

All my CIQ watch faces randomly get reset to null.

It makes me want to never sync. I've tried resetting them in Garmin Express, aswell as the app on Iphone, aswell as WIFI... both work, but then some time later, it resets again after syncing via ANY of those means.

Watchface maker say its fault of Garmin.

Seems like this is still happening 3 years later. Got a Fenix 5x Plus recently, have installed a few watch faces, and their settings get reset randomly.

I can re-apply them by going into the Watch face settings in the Connect app, and just tapping on the "Save" button at the bottom, and it will re-apply them immediately, but after a while they'll get reset again.

    Specs:

Fenix 5x Plus Software version: 10.10

    iPhone 11 Pro (iOS 13.3.1),

Watch Faces tested: GameO, Sport Master.
