Training Status data durability

Hi,

Finally after more than a month of using my Fenix 5 my stats stopped going down and began to improve and reflect what I'm doing, I read that it takes around 4 weeks for the data provided by FirstBeat technology to be of any use, my question is, if I were to replace my watch with another F5 or F5X or even reset my current one essentially deleting the data in the watch itself, would I have to go through this whole 4 weeks process of the watch learning about me again?

I would hope that the data is backed up in Garmin Connect but I'm not so sure considering that I did have a history of wearing the Fenix 3 HR for a year collecting the same type of data, GPS based distance/pace/cadance heart rate etc and it wasn't really used at all by this calculation, I hope that the new data collected by the Fenix 5 is marked some how as to be used by future calculations by future devices because going through the period of 4 weeks or more doesn't make any sense when I already have all of this history data in Garmin's servers.

Nope, those stats are device specific. New watch - new learning period. Incredibly stupid, but that's the way it's handled, unfortunately. Just going through it after replacing my F5 with a 935. Maybe it's a licensing problem that they only have a binary "blob" from Firstbeat on the watch and no way of "seeding" it with previously recorded values?
  • Unfortunately it's device specific - I bought a slate grey F5 to use while waiting a month for my silver one to show up and none of the Firstbeat related metrics carried over. I was able to back-up and transfer over a lot of settings but pretty much anything that is related to Firstbeat technologies can't be ported. It's likely to be something related to the licensing Garmin have for the Firstbeat IP.

I do wish it wasn't this way though as the information is quite useful once it gets the right level of data and it would be nice not having to worry about starting from scratch every time you wanted to swap devices.
I'd like for example to be able to switch from a 935 and an F5 from time to time but that would mess all the Firstbeat metrics up.
I also like the idea of using an F5X for trail runs with the maps pre-loaded but I'd rather not wear such a large watch all the time but again I wouldn't do it if it messed up the metrics which I find to be quite useful.

I recently had to do a hard reset of my F5, and lost all the existing metrics. (The 7 days to generate new metrics is up tomorrow ..... come on, come on).

You may well be right about the legal restrictions on Firstbeat IP. But there shouldn't be any legal restrictions on backing up 7 days or 28 days worth of your exercise data back onto the watch. (Although that's a sync I would definitely want to do over the cable, as backing up a month's worth of data over BLE would be SSSLLLOOOWWW.)
