Why Garmin Fenix 5x hasn't steps data field in any workouts???

Why Garmin Fenix 5 hasn't steps data field in any workouts??? And it is not even possible somehow to go out from any workout to check how much steps you already have:-(
I'm new in Garmin watches and till now used Samsung Gear S2. So, S2 has possibility to check any time from any activity or workout how much steps you already assembled.
And one more interesting thing. Already more than week I'm trying to check how 5x calculates indoor steps. In my office 5x6m2 I'm working around with 5x on one hand and S2 on other and counting steps myself, 500 steps, for example. On S2 I have almost the same amount but on 5x just about 50 or max 100 steps. The same situation I have in my home. If it is small enough room, no chance that 5x will count something more or less real, especially if you are making sharp enough turns. I'm looking on steps widget and see that it is totally frozen without any changes at all for 2-3 minutes. The result, by the end of day 5x has about 3000-4000 steps less than S2.
So, would be interesting to know has Garmin team any idea how to correct it in future??? Is Fenix 5 also the activity tracker???
  • Garmins have a method to reject false steps (such as moving your arm while sitting). No steps count until you do 10.

So if you do 9 steps and stop, 9 more and stop, etc, you won't get any steps counted. But if you do 11 steps, you'll get credit for all 11

Sounts like your otherdevice might be a bit for forgiving on things and what's a "step"
  • Ok, thanks, i understood it

But in this case 9 steps ahead and turn around on back way, how it will be in this way??? Looks like turn around is not a step for Germin and it starts to count new 9 steps? And maybe it is a reason why 5x looks like frozen for a long enough time?

If you want to see your steps when in an activity, simply add one of the connect IQ steps data fields such as Simple Steps https://apps.garmin.com/en-GB/apps/69411759-f272-4542-98ba-351e2dab8c6f or STEPS+ https://apps.garmin.com/en-GB/apps/7c2fc198-1162-40b9-85c3-260d0a80f302
  • thank you for refferences,

    just what i wanted

Just on the small room, turns and steps issue. It helps if your watch is on the outside of the turn, as your arm is more likely to complete a full swing (and the watch to detect this as a step) - in a sharp turn, the inside arm is often close to stationary. If you wear the 5x on your left wrist, turn to the right.

Also, you can access widgets (including the step widget) from within an activity by pressing and holding the Down button.
