All the Training Load data is derived from Firstbeat IP which is all heart-rate based. So yes you'll need either an HRM-Swim or HRM-Tri to get the data from your swimming sessions.
Apologies for the slight necro but I wonder if any people responding in here have seen training load actually respond to swimming using HRM-swim or HRM-tri? I've just tried my HRM-tri in the river and despite a TE2.5 swim (which, if it were a bike or run, would put my training load up by about 60 points), my training load has gone up by 5. I wonder if that's just from the points where it had "live" HR data when I stopped in the shallows. Anyone else have any experiences? I definitely agree there's no change at all if you don't use a HRM!
I believe it's the same for me, (I have a 935) training load doesn't change if I don't use the HRM tri but I'm not even sure it changes either with it. watch still says I'm undertraining because I do mostly home trainer and swimming ... this training load is garbage ...and when I go for a run it goes sky high in the red directly on the training load ...
I have only noticed changes with my training mode while running, mostly outdoor runs. Have had long bike rides and long summing sessions but not much affected in my training status. Still using Training peaks for a better understanding of my progress.
I am having the same situation. It should be included because the watch includes many sports there. If you do a sport like swimming (pool or sea), there are calories and effor involved ther and distance in the training. The training effect should be taken into account by Garmin Watch to be used for Thiaglon Sport. All Triatlon sports the triatles go there and do trinaing. So the atlet do need this information to be certai in the Training. Training effect should be inclued, even if the Training Effect does not work withoud HR-Swim Or HR-TRI, this detail could be understood not to be shown. But the rest, like Training statu, Recovery. VO2 Max, Training Load, could be shown if based in calories, and the information available from the watch should be inclued by Garmin to calculate this values at least estimated. Thanks.
