Is Auto Cal working

Is Auto Cal working for you?
Does it set the altimeter on your watch once you start an activity and Auto Cal is ON?
I deliberately calibrated my altimeter to a wrong elevation, enabled it and then started an activity, but nothing changed
Tried it multiple times with no success
I am interested if this is a S/W issue or something wrong with my device, so if someone can do a similar test and post their experience, I would
appreciate it
  • Hi

I started that one as well, but that refers to continuous calibration
This one is for the functionality as described in the manual, which sets the altimeter to the one read by the GPS
at the time you start the activity
I did manage to do it only once this past weekend, after I tried maybe 10 times
I am not sure if it is by design or it is just flawed

Another thing I noticed and I would appreciate any input is that when manually calibrating the altimeter, there is a tick (which you clcik to set the value)
I noticed that its color can be: green, red or blue

Any ideas why the different color?

Yesterday I tried 5 times to set the altitude when starting an activity (auto-cal = on).
    Only once it worked.

There is a cool feature in my EDGE 520 that seems to be working also for Fenix 5.
If you save a position, whenever you start an activity in the nearby (in my experience within 30/50 mt) altitude is automatically calibrated to the quote of the saved position. Auto-calibration must be set to 'activated'.
  • Did you test it in F5 as well and it auto calibrates the altimeter every time?
They mention nothing in the manual

Yes, I made a few tests with my home position and another place. Till now it works.
It is not mentioned in F5 manual nor in Edge 520 manual. My previous Edge 500 had a similar feature described in the manual.

    From EDGE 500 MANUAL:
    Setting Elevation Points
You can save up to 10 elevation points. Using an elevation point each time you begin a particular training ride provides more-consistent and more-accurate elevation data.
    1. Press and hold MENU.
    2. Select GPS > Set Elevation.
    3. Enter a descriptive name.
    4. Enter the known elevation.
    5. Select Save.
The next time you start the timer,
the Edge automatically searches for elevation points within 30 m of your location. The Edge uses the elevation data as the starting point.
