Dear Garmin - What do I miss here???? Fenix 5 bad accuracy

Sorry to write this way but I am a bit sad about my Fenix 5 saphire which was not a cheap buy but when I see the results of the tracking and also how the connect app is organized, I could throw up. I changed from Fitbit which was very accurate to garmin as I tought the watch would be a pretty good choise in accuracy, water resistent, apps and so on.... looks like I was totally wrong.

1.) What is going on with the calories burned tracking?

I am 186cm, 99Kg, 39 y/o.
Garmin tells me already now at 8:20 in the morning that I overall burned 1177kcal by sitting in the office??? and 700 steps?

Yesterday I did a workout with weight lifting in the morning but again...overall calories burned = about 4500???? Resting time etc. ok but it looks like I burn like a volcano while I rest.....

Sorry but I guess something is totally wrong here or do I miss anything? Activity class is set to 2 which should not be too high I guess, or is it?

2.) Sleep tracking:

Also compared to fitbit which was very accurate and knew exactly when I started to fall asleep (it even knew that I was just staying on the couch for 2 hours before I went to bed) my fenix or the connect needs to be adjusted... in other words I have to jump in and manually edit the tracked sleeping hours myself which is totally weird!

Thanks for the help and support... if this is not explainable I will send it back and do a quick youtube video on this accuracy issue if this can't be explained.

To be honest I don't want to push Garmin in a wrong spotlight as I love the Fenix as it offers what I wished but to be very honest, to me it looks like that these issues which I have and some others I could read here as well, could be fixed by several updates, I am pretty sure that it is not the hardware as Step counts are very accurate and heart rate gives also a pretty good data output.

So I hopr Garmin is going to do something about it. The issue with the stairs today was hapening for the first time, so this is not an issue of the device itself. I wrote also to the support today and I hope they fix this with some updates.
  • I have both fitbit Charge HR and F5 on my wrists (one each of course) and using FB and F3/5 since almost 2 years in parralel.

I can tell how much Garmin is way more accurate then FB, charge HR is a nice toy doing the job ok but it counts everything way out.
HR is ok for daily things but not workouts, it's very economy oriented and HR is refreshed kind of "smartly" but not regularly.

You might a fault Garmin but in general they are awesomely accurate.

    Hi yannlux

Could you tell me in which areas you believe the Garmin is more accurate than a Fitbit? I had a FB Blaze which I loved but wanted the F5 as I could wear it 24/7 (including running/exercise) however I have yet to see anywhere that the Garmin is more accurate than the FB. The Altimeter is inaccurate, it doesn't count floors climbed accurately, it doesn't measure sleep correctly, it may have more features than the FB but those features have come with a very very hefty price tag and right now, based on my experience to date with the F5, I am doubting whether those extra features are going to work the way that they should.
  • just got a 5x saphire.  went skiing yesterday and it said i burned 6800kcal (880 actually skiing).  i'm a pretty big person, 193cm, 113kg but 6800kcal in a day of skiing?  i was making a lot of turns, as we were skiing with beginners most of the day but i only broke 150bpm for about 4 minutes all day.
