Fenix 5 Silicone Band Buckle Digs In

Love the Fenix 5. I'm replacing my Fitbit Surge after 2 years of hard use.

Only issue: The buckle of the band digs into my wrist. I can't wear it any looser before it flops around and I lose HR accuracy.

Do any of the optional bands have a better buckle design?

the most comfortable strap I've ever had!
there's no pins no buckle & no pinholes and the retaining loops are on the side of the wrist which means nothing t0 dig into the wrist!

  • I hade this problem when first got my F5. I had a constant little cut on my wrist from the buckle digging in, mainly during swim sessions when I wore it tight for the distance notifications/vibrating

I took a photo and explained the situation to Garmin support. They sent me out a new band and the finishing on the buckle of the new band was much smoother. Problem solved!
    Great support from Garmin.

I found that the original strap on the Fenix 5S was unsatisfactory. It seemed to 'flap' a bit on runs and I was conscious I was wearing it. This might have just been a problem with the weight of the device - I am used to Garmin Forerunner 220 which is very light. I found that the ANCOOL replacement strap was a bit better. I also bought a Barton fabric type. This is really excellent and a definite improvement. It looks a lot more stylish on that the original strap too. You'll have to lose the quick release function but the wider pins from the Garmin will go through the strap. Unscrew the quick release button on the Barton pin with a pair of long nosed pliers to remove it. You'll need Tork screwdriver things to take out the Garmin pins. The suggestion is that it is a size 5 - but I got mine free when I replaced the Forerunner 220 strap so I can't be sure. if you do this be very careful when you are removing the pins from the Garmin. They are secured by a small lug bolt which can easily pop out from the pin and fall on the floor. I thought I had lost mine and spare pins do not seem to be available. The only way you may be able to get them is if you buy a new strap from Garmin and they may be included - but at £44!
