Fenix 5 Silicone Band Buckle Digs In

Love the Fenix 5. I'm replacing my Fitbit Surge after 2 years of hard use.

Only issue: The buckle of the band digs into my wrist. I can't wear it any looser before it flops around and I lose HR accuracy.

Do any of the optional bands have a better buckle design?
  • Had that problem too for some reason. Fixed it by adapting a cheap Moko F3 strap!
  • mstache,

I had the same problem with the Fenix 5 buckle. It cuts into my arm so I had to retrun it, though I liked it very much. I bought a Fenix 5s instead because it has a rounder buckle but the Fenix 5s has extremly short bands so I have to wear it really tight. Contacted the german support but only get the answer that there is no solution for my problem. So for me the Fenix 5 /s bands are a real disapointment.

I noticed the exact same thing too. I fixed the issue by taking very fine sandpaper, and sanding down the parts of the edges that were sharp. No damage to the metal, and is fine now.
  • I had the same problem, and had to wear it on my opposite hand. I am not sure what's digging my wrist skin. I'm waiting for it to heal up. I did not had any problem during the FR620.

I did have the same problem.

I took a small metal file and filed the edge where the buckle joins the strap nearest the skin. Only needs a small amount removed to give a more rounded edge. No more painful marks from the strap :o

Also, because it's such a small amount to remove and that it's on the underside of the buckle, it's not even an obvious fix!! Someone at Garmin needs to take a look at the design though, I had to alter two straps!
  • Indeed, it's anyone's guess what possessed them to use such a monster "Bell & Ross" type of buckle for a sport watch. They've come to their senses fortunately with some new QF straps that appear to have a normal/flat buckle : https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/553030/pn/010-12500-01#

I've also had this, I've slackened the band and its fine now, but I notice moments when I dont get HR so I think it's not tight enough.

I have recently purchased the fenix 5 and must say I was bitterly disappointed to have the same issue. Especially when one considers the purchase price, you would hope that it would not suffer from such a simple design flaw.
  • I also having this same issue with my Fenix 5 too, I never has issue with my Fenix 3 HR one. I hope Garmin will do a recall for exchange with these defects buckle one.
