How long does it generally take you to find GPS/Glonass?

Before my Fenix 5 I had a Forerunner 230, and on similar routes which I run now, I tend to notice that I found GPS/Glonass in the green within 5-6 seconds.

I have noticed on my Fenix 5 that it seems to take longer possibly (only say possibly because it's a long time since I had my 230).

I went on a run the other day and it took around 10-15 seconds with a few trees and today I was in an open car park without too much around me and it still took around 10 seconds to find.

I'm from the UK if that means anything to any of you.
  • Actually 10-15 seconds (in general, any watch) isn't bad.... Good in fact! It will always take a bit of time after it turns on the GPS radio to get the sats it needs.

Ok I see. I do notice on my Strava app on my iPhone it tends to pick up 'GPS signal acquired' quicker, sometimes within 2-3 seconds.

10-15 seconds seems reasonable. I can generally get a yellow lock in 5-10 seconds, and a green lock in 10-15.
  • I've been testing a 235 and a Fenix 5 side by side and found out that the 235 gets a much faster lock on gps, usually twice as fast as the F5. Also seems that the 235 is more accurate in its gps tracks.

Keep in mind, your iPhone doesn't use GPS technology to find your location. It uses cell towers.
