"HandsFive" Watch Face Issues

Using HandsFive watch face, which is promising. But HR, HR min/max are not displaying, and the altitude will not display above the day/date, though it's a choice. I've emailed the developer.

Thing is, when I go into settings to choose a watch face, the data shows on the watch face and appears accurate, UNTIL I select "apply" from the settings menu. Then altitude disappears and HR reverts to ---.

Any ideas why this behavior if the watch face can clearly show the data until I apply the watch face?

I get same behavior with "SC8" watch face. The HR and altitude show accurate when selecting the face, but when I "apply" and after "loading watch face" appears, the HR shows 255 ppm, and altitude shows "no data". What's up?
  • I believe that this is a "known issue" specific to the fenix 5X and is not caused by the watch face itself. I saw Jim report earlier that he thought it was fixed in the latest beta, so you may wish to give that a try.

Gear Min, no altitude since .21b
I tried Digic ... most features still broken.

I suppose all the IQ devs are working right now but if you were talking about the F5x beta, it won't solve his problem.

Gear min with the latst beta 3.30 showing HR and altitude, although no sun rise/set:

So it does appear the F5x beta will solve his problem.
  • Here's how to get sunrise/sunset on CIQ watchfaces

I've used this with mine, as well as NoFrills, and will probably work with others.

A bit about how CIQ watchfaces do this. First of all, they can't just get rise/set from the firmware on any watch. A watchface needs to calculate it, and this needs the lat/lon, date, etc.

On most watches, the lat/lon from the last activity that used GPS is available to a watchface for at least a period of time after the activity is saved, discarded. The watch face can grab the lat lon, and not only use it, but save it away for times that it's no longer available from the last activity.

This is why on most watches, if you don't get rise/set, the developer says to just start an activity with GPS, end it, and when you go back to the watchface, you should see rise/set.

The last lat/lon is not available to a watchface afterwards on the f5x though - a watchface can only get the lat/lon while the activity is being recorded.

So, here's what you can try:

    • Go in and start an activity that uses GPS, like run, and wait for a GPS fix, and start the recording
    • Press the hotkey you have set for "widgets" (long press down is the default)
    • You'll see the watch face, and if not, use up/down to see it. Depending on the watchface, you might see rise/set right away
    • Hit back to return to the run, and then discard the run activity

You'll need to do this for each watchface if you have more than one with rise/set, or if you uninstall/reinstall the watch face, or if you go to a very different location.
  • That works, thanks once again Jim.

Which watch face is that and how is it showing altitude? I can't get SC8 or HandsFive to show altitude. Thank you.
  • That is gear Min. But as mentioned earlier, you will need the latest beta firmware to get things like altitude working.

Thanks. Actually I got sunrise/sunset/altitude working by starting a run, widget key over to watch face, reload it. Altitude and sun times along with heart rate showing now on FW 2.9:

  • Here is HandsFive showing sunrise/sunset and HR, but it seems the altitude only shows during an activity. I guess the watchface does not save this when it has access to it.
