Power Datafields in Runmodes

i'm not sure if the people from garmin actually read here, but i'm don't know where to ask anywhere.
is it possible to add the power datafields also in the running profiles? stryd users would greatly benefit from this, as it would be possible to show different power averages and also do planned trainings involving power.
  • Yes, it would be nice to use Garmin standard power data fields but I am not sure it is that straightforward. It is the Stryd Connect IQ datafield app that computes the various power pod data tracks and they are not -- I would guess -- accessed in the same way as power data streams from a cycle power meter.

You can get a lot more information using the Stryd Data IQ App (rather than the datafield) but that it would appear from posts to have connectivity drop-out issues for many. Not tried that myself yet so ...

Hopefully, Garmin in partnership with Stryd can populate standard Power datafields for running in the future -- if they are listening!

    Hi Krueger and WillCW

    Thanks for your message.

Right now, as you may know, we offer a Stryd Power data field via Connect IQ. This lets you view and record your power in real time in run mode on the watch. You can install this by:

    1. Plug your watch into Garmin Express on the computer
    2. Select your watch and click on Manage Apps.
    3. Click on 'Get More Apps' in the bottom right hand side of the screen.
    4. Search Stryd Power in the Garmin App Store and install this data field
    5. Sync your watch and unplug it from the computer
    6. Open up the run mode on your watch and customize your data screens
    7. Find Connect IQ in the data field options and select Stryd Power
    8. Now, your watch will display and record power in run mode.

I understand that there are hope for a lot more here. It would be great if you could view lap power averages and do more 'native' stuff. We are working on bringing this to you and we think that you will thrilled with what we have coming. I invite you to email me at angus [at] stryd.com if you would like continued updates on this!

    Best,
    Angus & the Stryd Team
  • thx angus for the quick headsup.
i currently use the stryd iq datafield, as it is currently the only way to get the power data on the watch while running.

DC Rainmaker had a blog post in the beginning of april though, that there is a new ANT profile for Running Dynamics - so if the stryds (i use a pioneer) would use that profile and garmin would bring the power datafields to the running app then it would be perfect. Power Data and RD native in the fit-files plus RD and Power showing in realtime on the watch. Alarms possible, as well as proper lap averages in trainings (not possible at the moment).

PS: i follow the stryd forums closely ;)
  • Stryd Angus, Thanks, yes, I know about the Stryd data field and already use it with my Styrd. The point of my reply to the OP, which perhaps you misunderstood, was that the native power fields are not available for use in run mode yet but that I thought that this would change. You at least confirm you are working on that.
