Fēnix 5S/5 – 3.30 Beta Release

Hello Fenix 5S/5 users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures! Please read the 'notes' and 'installation instructions' in the 'Updates and Downloads' page found in the links below for your specific device. We look forward to your feedback.

This is only a version bump and is no different than 3.22b. We will leave the 3.22 thread open given how closely related these software versions are. However, we would appreciate you updating and validating for us that nothing has changed. Please be sure to run all updates provided in the download. You'll see new versions for the System Software (3.30) and Sensor Hub (3.20). These are all important updates for best performance.

The software might look identical, but that might not mean they function the same, nor do updates stand to be the same either.

If it's different software I can understand it but I don't think it is. If it's the same software but they're doing different things within it based on a device id then I would think that's a whole world of pain for Garmin. Regarding oHR I would suspect that the Fenix 5 and 935 are the same hardware, the same firmware and the same software.

I'd agree. Just to keep manufacturing costs down. You wouldn't want to be using a different OHR sensor for each watch. This would reduce the savings in terms of bulk buying and multiple the programming, developing and maintenance costs etc. The sensor will be the core and the design (size, shape) will influence the battery size, which will influence the processor size that impacts on possible features etc.

Ant+ working well for me on 3.30. Will be testing the O-HR on a separate run out later.

Good luck on the run, I hope it all works well.

I've decided to stick to v2.90 for now. I only experience issues with ANT+ connectivity to my hrm-run4 if I drop my arm when running and everything else is working fine on that version.

How can we update the fenix 5 from 3.30 beta to the official and final release 3.30?
The Garmin Express app says that the device is up to date.
I want to go to the latest official version so that I can receive automatic updates.
    Thanks in advance!

Updated to 3.30 production version on my f5 using Garmin Express without any issues. Haven't done any workouts to test it yet.

Updated to the 3.30 production release.. No issues yet.

I've only done an indoor session on the trainer, synced with speed/cadence and power, and broadcasting wrist HR.. So far so good.

First 15 minutes the O-HR was completely out. About 30-40 bpm to high. It stayed at a constant level and only fluctuated by 2-5 bpm. After 15 minutes the it woke up and gradually dropped down by 35 bmp and started to respond normally. It seems to get stuck at a higher false rate then suddenly snap out of it. I'll be testing it out again to see if the same pattern emerges.

GPS wise.... surprised, it was bang on most of the time with the only occasional wander off track when the trees got a little thicker or when we stopped / slowed down. Happy with that side of it.... Of course, still room for improvement though :-)
