Fēnix 5S/5 – 3.30 Beta Release

Hello Fenix 5S/5 users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures! Please read the 'notes' and 'installation instructions' in the 'Updates and Downloads' page found in the links below for your specific device. We look forward to your feedback.

This is only a version bump and is no different than 3.22b. We will leave the 3.22 thread open given how closely related these software versions are. However, we would appreciate you updating and validating for us that nothing has changed. Please be sure to run all updates provided in the download. You'll see new versions for the System Software (3.30) and Sensor Hub (3.20). These are all important updates for best performance.

  • Hi,

updated fenix 5. Now it´s not responding to buttons and not connecting to express.

    What now?

Generally a conditioning run today (not hard or soft). Used the Stryd, which didn't drop off. There was a sensor hub update, so perhaps that could be a fix? As I stated in the prior beta release, didn't have a single drop from the stryd, though did see just a gap in HR (using hrm-tri) when I was at a stop to cross over a major lane of traffic (it's at the 4:10 mark). So ANT+ issues are still happening? Training effect is kinda wonky though. Calorie reporting is also off.....again.

I don't get it Garmin, you get things right for about a week and then BAM!! everything falls apart. Please forget everything else in the next beta, get the ANT+/BT issues and Calorie counting Algorithm fixed? Right now, it's counting 1 calorie every 5 mins. I'm in good shape, but i'm not superman...

    Hi,

that one was tricky. With the update to 3.30 it also updated my watchface „The Qo´noS“
The watchface is responsible fort he lock.

I managed to connect to garmin connect on my phone via bluetooth.
After that and looking around in the connectiq section I reconnected to my PC

Now it connected fine with express and I deleted the .PRG file in the APPS directory.

After restart it´s working smooth again.

u sure? when I look on your activity, there is no drop, as your HR is reported, about 105, and the graph is so scaled, that 105 seemes as empty graph (but look on the zoom, there is HR). Did you pause your watch on the crossing? That's why it goes immediately down.

Well, I did phrase it in the form of a question. I did look at the scaled version and I was at a complete stop and it auto-paused, which as a side note is near perfect on this new line of fenix, but I should have made mention of it going off since the watch vibrated that the external HR connected the moment I picked up running again. It was the only time on the run when it did this. I haven't had the issues people have had with ANT+ with my watch, I did post on the beta that I hadn't had drops with Stryd on runs; this run as you can see didn't have a problem either. As for the BT, Now i'm getting disconnects and only reconnect when I go to the app. I have made sure over and over nothing is restricting BT on the watch for GCM, but it keeps dropping. I even have GCM Runner installed and that isn't stopping the BT from DC'ing (it may be reconnecting it, but it isn't keeping it connected.) I'm getting the disconnects now even with the phone right in my pocket.

I also know Garmin is having issue with phones running Android 7.0 (I was personally told by the beta team they were), but at least, in my experience that issue is no longer one via external BTS external sensors (I can connect to my Polar H10 no problem now). My initial point still stands; the Beta team needs to put everything else aside and get the ANT+/BT issues fixed right now, everything else is secondary.

Wonder Why You add sync over WIFI to Fenix 5 ??
And once more range for BT connection with phone is broken - right now sometimes it disconnect with phone in 1m distance C'mon its so difficult to keep it OK???

Before 3.22 its working ok, and right now its broken again
  • Version 3.30 seems OK to me. No problems with installation. Didn't test outdoor sports yet.
  • Training load seems on-point, active calorie and activity tracking still under reporting. oHRM is bottoming out a lot. It's the same thing again and again with these beta releases, they try and fix one thing...which breaks calorie reporting and the oHRM. It was like this with the F3HR and it's the same thing with the F5 line.

If it's broken oHR and calories you would think this would also be broken on the 935. I haven't been on those forums but I may take a look.

The software might look identical, but that might not mean they function the same, nor do updates stand to be the same either.
