Fēnix 5X – 3.30 Beta Release

Hello Fenix 5X users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures! Please read the 'notes' and 'installation instructions' in the 'Updates and Downloads' page found in the link below. We look forward to your feedback.

This is only a version bump and is no different than 3.22b. We will leave the 3.22 thread open given how closely related these software versions are. However, we would appreciate you updating and validating for us that nothing has changed. Please be sure to run all updates provided in the download. You'll see new versions for the System Software (3.30), Display Software (2.20) and Sensor Hub (3.20). These are all important updates for best performance.

3.30 Change Log Notes:

Added support for hiding the distance to next field, shown by default on the map page while navigating. (Settings > Navigation > Data Screens > Map > Data Field)
Added support for viewing navigation data pages on the Head Mounted Display (HMD).
Improved the reliability of LiveTrack.
Fixed an issue where the unit could crash if one were to remove all data pages for an activity profile.
Fixed an issue where invalid golf scorecard files were being uploaded, if one were to pause their golf round before connecting to Express.
Fixed an issue where coordinate entry was not working correctly for Russian and Hungarian.
Fixed an issue where the Golf app was not available in the app list.

bugs...

yesterday i made a mountainbike activity:
-bad gps record on downhill https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?374137-Is-it-accurate&p=984011#post984011
-after 3 segment stopped, it wasn't possible to enter to segment list (it disappeared...)
- after saving it displayed 16000m of uphill

today i made a run activity with one segment:
-the map stacked . the display was almost completely blank
-distance remaining stacked a lot of time

-stress hrv always displays 1
-found some segments with strange name (letters and symbols)
-sometimes i found some sensors turned off

In software 3.30 problem with map freeze is still present (mentioned in 3.22 beta thread).

When running with Stryd (pace and distance set to footpod ALWAYS) with stryd datafield (it's the only IQ thing i'm using) active map freezes ~5min into activity and unfreezes after 5-10minutes working fine for the rest of time.

When cycling with no IQ datafields (just garmin default Bike APP) map freeze is not happening.

Both activities had no BT active (pairing with my phone is not working since day 1), 1sec recording, GLONASS off (although I checked and GLONASS on doesn't change a thing).

GC Software version reporting error

I have just cable connected my F5X and synced with Garmin Express.
I am still on software version 2.90 having chosen not to opt into this beta.
However, Garmin Express reports that my sofware is up to date on version 3.30!
I checked about on watch after disconnecting. Yep, still on 2.90. And last activity on GC shows as 2.90.
Yes, I know it is a GE issue rather than beta but still ...

edit: Title should say 'GE' not 'GC' but can't edit. LOL.
edit 2: No sooner have I posted this and full 3.30 becomes available! Obviously, I walked in just as they were pulling up their pants!
Will now re-aattach and download.

Is the 3.3 beta the same as the final. I have the beta and my watch says 3.30 (1e77d9a)

Beta is not neccessarily the same as the production version of same number. They often slip in some minor changes not given in the change log. So do download production 3.30 and install.

Tried to install with Garmin connect and Garmin connect mobile but seems that watch is up to date... How can i install this update apart from Garmin connect?

Just found this out by chance.
If you set BACK as Controls Menu... the DOWN as Widgets does not work.

Any news on Strava Segments still not working?

Any news on Strava Segments still not working (watch starting navigation even tough you previously canceled the segment, distance remaining field not changing etc.)?

"Fixed a potential issue, where a Fenix 5X device could crash while loading segments with names that had special characters."

in the release notes should actually say "... at the cost of making all segments completely unusable." :p
