Fenix 5x and tempe

Hi my tempe needs long 60-90 seconds to connect on 5x
On my S7 i ve AmbiTemp Free there it only takes 5-10 seconds to connect to tempe.
Also on AmbiTemp Free it shows min temp 8,9° max temp 26,0 on Fenix 5x it shows only min 9°max 26°
So i know the tempe can show 0,1 units.
Please fix this with next update.
  • I'm sure this is possible also seconds always on.

It's not. 1hz watchfaces actually have nothing to do with this. All a watchface can do is update a section of the screen every second (I've got a bunch of mine doing that). It's actually not involved with this at all. Even with 1hz, it can update the display every second, but if the underlying data doesn't change that often (HR as seen by a WF only changes every minute or two for example), doesn't mean real time data for everything.

Accessing sensors (like the tempe) or using Ant+, is restricted to a background process for the watch face, which runs at most every 5 minutes, and then for at most 30 seconds at a time. I actually tried with a Tempe as a sensor in the background process a few weeks back, and the 1 minute connect things means it won't work, even by staggering the time the background runs so that it's not at the same point in a "minute" all the time (it would have to reconnect each time the background runs.). The only hope is do do direct ANT+ calls for the background, and again, at most every 5 minutes, and only has 30 seconds to reconnect and get data each time.

If you disagree, download the 2.3.0.beta1 SDK and try it yourself.
  • Seconds always on will be possible on the newest watches soon once CIQ 2.3.0 is out of beta. I know Jim has his watch faces going with seconds always on. But I would be amazed if you see temperature from tempe available on watch faces on the current generation of watches.

I trust you, but every 5 mins a Tempe reading in Watchface is good enough. Its Garmins turn now to bring in better support for Tempe maybe i'm wrong but i don't think it's a hardware problem, it would just need a firmware update.
With ultrarac on i have access to Tempe all the time. Correct me if i'm wrong, what drains accu is the gps connection not the Tempe always connected and self updating.

Jim thank you for the tip, now Tempe gets much more air.
Ps: i wrote to GearMin developer hope in next update Tempe is shown in Watchface.

Any news when CIQ 2.3.0 will be final?
Seconds always on are no problem, why should be Tempe or other ant+ shown in Watchface be a problem?

As I said, the Tempe might be possible with Ant+, and will be testing that in the next week or two. 2.3x won't be available until that time for release apps.

BTW, This is just curiosity about the Tempe and Ant+ for me, and I'm not saying I publish a watchface that does it, even if it works.
  • The tempe on the f5x is working just like it does on all other modern Garmin watches.. The va,vahr,fr's, fenix3, fenix5, etc...

Mine does work the same, but I find my Tactix Bravo connected to the Tempe much sooner than my 5X has so far.

It happens more than often, i switch to Tempe and before i get a reading it switches back to Watchface. So Garmin please speed up Tempe connect time.AmbiTemp connects to Tempe in a few seconds, but i dont want to pull out my smartphone. One reason for buying 5x was Tempe and the idea to see real temperature with one quick look at my Watch.
  • So this old bug is back? I remember when the fenix 3 was new there was also complaints in the forum about long reading times but this was fixed in later firmware. Embarrassing for Garmin to re introduce the same issue in a later product!:o

Since this issue was fixed in the fenix 3 (I get connection times often between 5-6 seconds and up to 30 seconds but mostly below 20 seconds which I think is fine for me) I guess it should be possible to fix it for the fenix 5X!

Speaking of the Tempe is it true that the regular fenix 5 have a much less reach compared to the fenix 3 and fenix 5 X? For me I can connect to the tempe even when it is in a different room and up to 15 meter away which amazes me, in open field I have reached over 40 meter at most. Is the fenix 5 and fenix 5X equally as good?

How long is the battery supposed to work in the tempe? Mine is almost 2 years old and still on original battery and it still works just fine. In the manual it says to change battery every year so mine is already twice that age.

The range must be pretty good on my 5X, every time I disconnect the watch from the PC and it is loading maps I get a tempe connected message on my watch while my shoes are under the stairs in a cupboard the other side of the house from where I am sitting.
