Fenix 5x and tempe

Hi my tempe needs long 60-90 seconds to connect on 5x
On my S7 i ve AmbiTemp Free there it only takes 5-10 seconds to connect to tempe.
Also on AmbiTemp Free it shows min temp 8,9° max temp 26,0 on Fenix 5x it shows only min 9°max 26°
So i know the tempe can show 0,1 units.
Please fix this with next update.
  • Check out the facebook link in my sig. Back on Feb 13 I did a post about the tempe and a better way to clip it with a picture. A $2 clip from Home Depot - A S-Biner #3 by Nitize.

Clip it to anything, move it as needed, etc.

I've been using this with a Tempe for a couple years. Clip it to a pack, a belt loop, a jacket zipper, etc.
  • If you have a strap that fits, I find the built in clip works really well, but if not, then the suggestion from Jim is great. I too use the s-biner he suggests, and this is great for clipping it to anything which has a loop.

Your methode from fb looks cool

Yes, with the S-Biner, you don't have to wear the same pants all the time or worry about putting in the wash (well, at least no so much...)! :)

Here's the picture of the setup I have in the app store:

Atm i take it off when i change pants, its easy and fits good on brandit pants, but i'm always afraid that it breaks.
I will buy a s-biner i have a smaller one for my fenix ld12 on keychain.

But back to the problem with Tempe and 5x connecting time. Is there a chance that garmin fix this with next update. Also GearMin watchface is not showing Tempe only 5x internal temperature. I don't know if this a 5x problem or the GearMin developer.
The best way would be that with next 5x update Garmin allows us to have options in Displaydesign for Tempe Heartbeat...
Or makes an easy tool like Face-It. I like as much info as possible on Watchface, a quick look on Watch and done no need to zap around to get all the info you need.

Actually all CIQ watchfaces are restricted in what they can do (it's all about the battery!) One thing they can't do is access sensors (like the tempe), but only access the internal temperature history (the SH.getTemperatureHistory() call), and display the last reading saved by the FW, which could be a minute or two old. So it's nothing about GearMin - no CIQ watchface can do it.

If you click on the store link in my sig, you'll see "Time and Tempe". It's not a watch face, but a watch-app, but looks like a watch face. It can access the Tempe, and once connected, will give you the minute-by-minute temperature (the Tempe only takes a reading every minute.) It doesn't show 24hour max/min, but tracks the low and high for the day (only during the time it's running though)..

I don't care much about battery with gps or ultra trec activitys i need to recharge 5x every 5-6 day this makes with modern accu 1000 cycles 5-6000 days before i have to send 5x to Garmin to replace the accu.

So please Garmin let us users decide if we wanna save accu time or not. I want as much info as possible when i look on my 5x even see seconds always and tempe readings bpm in realtime not zap through and then wait a minute that tempe connects and shows me the temp.

Even in AmbiTemp Free on ant+ able smartphones it shows time from last sync and temp a refresh takes a few seconds to show Tempe current temp and in 0,1 units deepest and highest from 24 hours.
With the default watchfaces its sadly not possible to setup all the info i want like in GearMin.

Some of what you want is available to CIQ developers today, but can't be put in the app store yet - like seconds all the time. (I've got maybe 6 of mine I'm testing right now that do that.) There's also the means to have a background process to get data off the internet, etc, that can't be done in the main watchfaces. The Tempe is tricky as the 1 minute to connect exceeds the time that a background process is allowed run each time the background runs.

Glad to read that, the 5x is pretty new i ordered and payed mine on april 11 and got it this monday when i look on Garmin Austria it still stands available in 2-3 weeks.

I'm more then happy with 5x and can wait for updates to fix the bugs like GearMin resets to default every time i zap to Tempe or an other page.
If a free sp app can connect fast to Tempe i'm sure the 5x can do this as well.

I'm sure it can if it were programmed to. But it seems it is programmed for power optimisation not for connection speed, which is fine for the intended purpose of tracking temperature in an activity, but not so great for a short lived widget.
