Garmin Footpod instead of Stryd?

Have lost patience now with using my Stryd and F5 together. The number of dropouts seems to get worse not better with each BETA release. As the Pace from GPS is still all over the place I was thinking about getting a Garmin Footpod instead and using that for pace in lieue of both the Stryd pod and the watch's GPS measurement.

Has anybody had any success with this combination? Can I still expect Ant+ dropouts with the Garmin pod?

Incidentally, since switching off GLONASS and setting the watch back to smart recording my GPS tracks have actually been pretty sweet. Some minor wandering but nothing different to what I'd see on my old FR735XT.

I never experience any dropouts with the Garmin Foot pod, even when using the chest strap at the same time. I have FW 2.90.

Thanks guys, good price on both Wiggle and Amazon today so I've pulled the trigger and ordered one to try at track tomorrow. Still gutted that I'll have to unload the Stryd as it's meant to be the most accurate device you can get.
  • Hi all,

I wanted to clear up some information here relating to Stryd.

I suggest following ColinvZ's suggestions in this thread. Garmin will know best on the reported ANT+ issues: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?374423-Problems-with-Ant-connectivity&p=982530#post982530

Ultimately you would need to contact Garmin International support to be placed on the list to be notified about a solution to poor ANT reception

Garmin Footpod has been around for years , very reliable and cheap. Stryd is a newer device so I would expect there will be some bugs.

Stryd has a track record of great reliability and support with Garmin watches. Based on the reports from this forum, the Fenix 5 has connectivity troubles with all ANT+ sensors including Garmin HRM, Garmin running dynamics, Stryd, and bike power meters.

    Best,
    Angus from Stryd

Hey Angus, I did contact Garmin albeit Garmin U.K. and as expected they trotted out a standard line that the Stryd is a 3rd party device and that I need to take it up with you guys. Now I know that for some reason the F5 and F5S have problems with the Ant+ connection to Stryd so I refused to leave it at that. The problem was escalated to the next level of support and they've asked me to send in some FIT files from my watch and the same Stryd unit connected to another device. My girlfriend has a 735XT so will set it up on her watch for a couple of runs. The dropouts from my run this morning were substantial and I need a reliable pace metric displayed on my watch hence dropping down to the old Garmin pod. I now plan to send Garmin the files they've requested he see how that pans out so I'll hold off selling my Stryd for the moment (I really want it to work). Will update this thread as I get more info
  • Did you ever try the Stryd with the F5 out of interest? Bit gutted really but may as well stick the Stryd on eBay if it won't work more reliably with my watch. 5 dropouts this morning on a 40 minute run with a total loss of almost two minutes. Totaly screws up average pace etc.

No sorry didn't try it... I still own Fenix 5 sapphire so i maybe will some day just for fun ;)
