Garmin Footpod instead of Stryd?

Have lost patience now with using my Stryd and F5 together. The number of dropouts seems to get worse not better with each BETA release. As the Pace from GPS is still all over the place I was thinking about getting a Garmin Footpod instead and using that for pace in lieue of both the Stryd pod and the watch's GPS measurement.

Has anybody had any success with this combination? Can I still expect Ant+ dropouts with the Garmin pod?

Incidentally, since switching off GLONASS and setting the watch back to smart recording my GPS tracks have actually been pretty sweet. Some minor wandering but nothing different to what I'd see on my old FR735XT.
  • I was using Garmins footpod before I've got FR935 and Stryd. I was using it on a treadmill only and never had any dropouts and I had Garmin Tempe and Garmin HRM connected too

Did you ever try the Stryd with the F5 out of interest? Bit gutted really but may as well stick the Stryd on eBay if it won't work more reliably with my watch. 5 dropouts this morning on a 40 minute run with a total loss of almost two minutes. Totaly screws up average pace etc.

I've been using Garmin footpod with my F5s for a few weeks and I haven't experienced any dropouts. The pace graphs also look much better.

Have you tried it with beta 3.22? Someone else on the forums was saying they've had zero dropouts

I have indeed, that is what I'm running now and this morning had the worst dropouts yet :(

I just called up Garmin Support to report this and initially they were not playing ball because the Stryd is a 3rd party sensor. After some discussion they have agreed to look into it further. If some people are not having any dropouts at all then have I got a faulty unit? Hope not as all the messing about sending stuff back drives me mad.

It's all driving me bonkers too. I'm still within a window of time where I can send my f5 back but at the moment I'm unsure what to do.

That person is me. I really had zero issues with my Stryd yesterday on my f5. If you are using the CIQ app that might be the problem. If you are pairing it as both a foot pod and power meter (and connecting as both) that can be a problem. If you use the run sport with the stryd data screen, and have it paired as a FP it may be more stable. Thats what I did, even had my HRM-TRI and phone and jaybird x3 running at the same time and didn't have a issue.

I pair the unit as a foot pod and use the Connect IQ datafield to show power. I also had my HRM-RUN chest belt in place (never had an issue with that). On older firmware I've done runs with no dropouts but since the last couple of BETAs things have just gotten worse.

Garmin Footpod has been around for years , very reliable and cheap. Stryd is a newer device so I would expect there will be some bugs.

I have 2 pod, one is Adidas ANT+ footpod and one is Garmin ANT+ footpod. the Garmin is much much better, never dropped out , connection is fast.

Get a Garmin ANT+ pod and try it out.
  • I never experience any dropouts with the Garmin Footpod, even when using the chest strap at the same time. I have FW 2.90.
