HR Broadcast Outside Activity

Hi all,

I've had my Fenix 5S for less than a week now. So far, I'm quite impressed with the device as an upgrade from the Vivoactive HR.

One issue I've noticed, and was wondering if anyone else has observed this -- is HR broadcasting outside an activity. I have the Wrist HR set to broadcast in an activity. However, I've noticed at times even when no activity is running, and I open up Zwift to pair sensors -- it's reading my heart rate. Toggling the status from Auto to Off and back again for Wrist HR in the Sensors menu seems to resolve the issue.

I'll log it with Garmin -- but before I do, was curious if anyone else has noticed similar behaviour? My main concern is more that my device is inadvertently broadcasting HR when I'm not aware and draining battery.

Thanks!

EDIT: firmware version 2.90
  • Interesting - I doubt it's a bug in the true sense of the word and more a feature of how ANT+ communication works - I think that because you have paired the Zwift with the F5 before it can automatically connect to it again pretty much anytime it wants.
As far as draining your battery - I don't think so as the watch shouldn't be constantly trying to pair to any devices and it should only be communicating when a previously paired device tries to "wake it up"

That is my fairly limited understanding of how the ANT+ protocol works in any case.

I noticed the same thing with Golden Cheetah and it hadn't paired with my Fenix 5 before.. It searched and found the wrist HR. I would have thought it should only broadcast when you specify.
