Soft Strap HRM not recognised

Hi,
Since the update to 2.90, my HRM soft strap i had with my Fenix 3 is not recognised by the F5.
It was added, had a few run with it, then i used the WHR to see the difference, updated to 2.90 and it disappeared, not even in the list of connected items anymore.
What can i do?
  • I assume you've tried to search for it as a new sensor? Assuming you have and it just won't show up in the list, then the next thing to confirm is that the battery is fine in the chest strap (either check with another ANT watch or install the CIQ data field auxiliary heart rate https://apps.garmin.com/en-GB/apps/88ce4547-7d84-4289-b2c7-3e15ca00185f and see if that picks it up). If it's not transmitting, then time for a new battery. If you can definitely see it transmitting, but the watch is simply not registering it in the sensors menu, then unfortunately the only thing I can suggest is to reset the settings on the Fenix 5 Menu>Settings>System>Restore Defaults. From recent experience, I had a sensor that disappeared after upgrading from the software version the watch came with, and the only way to get it back was to clear the settings (and not restore any backed up settings files as they just perpetuated the problem).

Thanks for your swift reply and helpful tips!

After my post i went for a run, turned off WHR and wearing the HRM strap... I definitely got data transmitted and could see all running dynamics in Garmin Connect and even during the run on my F5.
Therefore, it works just i cant see it in the sensors list! Not sure i wish to go for a reset at this time but I appreciate your answer.
  • I guess there's something odd happened during the software update that's corrupted your sensor settings. At least it connects, but it's not 100% great as you can't view the sensor settings or choose to have it off or on. If you have time, I would definitely suggest summarising your experience in an email to [email protected] (include as much info about your software version and type of HR sensor as you can). The guys can only fix bugs if they are reported (but reported in an objective and not overly emotional way).
